Query for the old-skool Trek fandom people :

everyone in fandom knows that the main pairing was Kirk/Spock. *Duh*. However, in reboot 'verse, Kirk/McCoy is seriously rivalling it.

So, query from a person who never read the old skool fic, and only casually watched an ep here and there of TOS. (mostly in hotel rooms, it seems) Was there any support/obviousness for Kirk/Bones in TOS? of course they got slashed - as everyone knows, the slasher's first defence is 'Were they in the same scene? The same film/show? THEY CAN BE SLASHED.' Not to mention, I have vague memories of Bones being a bit gruff and ratty. How does his character compare with new Bones?

I believe it is the same friendship from old to new as in the old canon, Kirk knew McCoy prior to him "Captaining" (is that a word?) the Enterprise and it was Kirk that requested McCoy to join the ship after Piper retired.

butting out. I need to stay away from people flists. :)

I know fanon-wise Crisis on Centaurus has him meeting Jim in 2255 when Jim's on Farragut. But I'm still having a hard time finding canon on when they met in TOS. I do agree the friendship is just as strong--but I see WAY more Kirk/McCoy slashy subtext in AOS than I did in TOS.
