Shopping and nonensical time
Feb. 22nd, 2003 04:45 pmWent food shopping with Mum as Dad wasn't here - him being due back from Rumania today. For many years, dad and me have never been able to figure out why Mum takes so bloody long at it. Like, an hour and a half when it takes Dad and me, individually, about half an hour or less. Apparently she has to look at everything. And I mean dither, not look. Me and Dad look at stuff, but it's your standard checking that it's all right and you've got enough for meals planned. She also wanders about and is completely dappy about food choices. Most people, they go there, pick everything up from one place they need, move on to the next place, time added for going back for things you forget. My mother in the fruit and veg aisle is just a painful sight, that's all I'm saying. And to add to the dithering, see the so-called Quick Check thing that Waitrose has the option of so you can avoid the queues, where you scan everything in as you go round. This means you take twice as long. Or at least my mother does. :bangs head off table in frustration:
