They've been showing footage from an armoured vehicle of the Americans'... cruising down a dual carriageway into one of the suburbs of Baghdad. On the other side of the road there's burnt out tanks and armored vehicles and pick-up trucks with artillery guns on them, still smoking. Then it switches back to their side of the road... and there's other cars going past, and then a scooter goes past them into Baghdad. The sheer mundaneness is boggling. Just shown live pictures from the centre of Baghdad this minute, and what you saw was streets that looked exactly like people going shopping. Blue minibuses. As my dad said, looks like everyone's said 'sod this, I'm not getting involved in streetfighting.'
