I am also the mercenary character whenever you want to play fantasy.

RPG characters seem to be remarkably consistently mercenary in outlook, whatever the genre, setting, rules system, character class/profession etc. Seems to be something about quantifying character attributes as numbers and wanting the biggest toys that makes us immediately want more dosh.

Hell, one Twilight:2000 game I ran, one of the players got himself killed because he stopped to start looting the bodies of dead Soviet troops before they'd finished clearing the village they were assaulting. Doh!
