Henry VIII
Oct. 12th, 2003 11:27 pm*Seriously* impressive. Good drama, good script, really good performances by Ray Winstone and Helena Bonham Carter as Anne Boleyn. Good performances by everyone, and all very believable. Ray Winstone's got the right amount of strength, rage, command, sex appeal, charisma and sheer presence to seriously convince as Henry. Bruiser, yep. Absolutely damn perfect. Helena - basically, putting off the usual headstrong, intelligent and manipulative that she normally does, but it makes for a very convincing Anne. You understand exactly why Henry left Catherine for her, especially her rage when she first catches Henry's eye, then refusing to sleep with him and leading a merry dance until she knows she's going to be queen. Impressive piece of womanhood. Always had an admiration for Anne. Very good Wolsey from David Suchet, and a damn good Cranmer was there too.
:g: Though I did think, on seeing Assumpta Serna and Mark Strong, and knowing that Sean Bean was going to be in it (he's next week - this one ended on Anne Boleyn's execution) I was thinking 'Dear God, it's a Sharpe reunion'. But anyway. Beg, borrow and steal tapes of this. Me, I'm waiting for the dvd to be released, because they've really outdone themselves on this.
