Am watching Kitchen Confidential. Loving it way, way too much. All of you in the US must watch this to get its ratings up. Anyway, was 3/4 way through 2nd ep I get the call from mum. Turns out she wants an opinion on new trousers she has for their week in Dubai (stop-off on way to Australia holiday). My first reaction was 'no, no, please god no'. They looked like a sack. Trousers that fall in a straight line from the hip are not a good thing under any circumstance. Especially when you have the hips that me and mum have. (Bootleg is our goddess) Spent five minutes telling her 'no way, no how, not under any circumstances, especially when they hit the floor.' Proceeded to point out that Coco Chanel's trousers were less baggy. She whines slightly as a last resort that she'd been searching ages for lightweight trousers for the heat, I immediately vamoosed straight to my wardrobe to grab my lightweight cotton *tailored* grey and white slightly short leg for summer pairs and begged her to take those, pointing out that they also had pockets. Pointed out their wonderful fit, including no gap at the waist, and then marched her downstairs to dad to get him to emphasise this. (he has no clothes sense, but hey, strength in numbers) Mission accomplished.

Yesterday another fun day of gossip and geekery at Pub Meet, including a side trip with Jo, Annette and Taz to the Persian exhibition at the British Museum. Me and Taz went round, geeking to the supreme but also going 'hmm, now I understand the whole 'steal and keep for yourself' thing some highly illegal collectors have' when faced with a couple of pieces of statuary. One mastiff is so on our hit list. As is the column recreated for the Alexander film, which we decided really needed to be appropriated for those Scout/Guide gatherings, just so you can point out that your totem pole is far superior, and has winged things on the top. We have also expressed much drooling over the little cylinder stamps and the jewellery. And we wouldn't be *us* without large amounts of innapropriate comments about sex, phallic objects, and 'soooo, Darius built the canal, the palace... bet he was popular with the taxpayers'. Not to mention the immediate whip round of heads and 'excuse me, elaborate?' when two blokes behind us uttered the words 'group sex orgy'. We geek, we just geek with added benefits. It really doesn't help that the standard Persian knife hilt was *ridiculously* phallic, right down to the cross section where the blade joins it. And the fragment of wall carving that immediately inspired the comment of 'gnome slave bondage!'

Large amounts of SGA discussion, it turns out that one of our lot may be in for writing an SGA novel - me and Taz stood over him and threatened him that there better be at least one mention of penguins in there, and begged for some hints of McShep. After mentioning the gnome bondage, it somehow turned to discussion of what would happen if the Nac Mac Feegle hit Atlantis.

Much silliness. Bitching. More silliness and more bitching. Pear Cider in large amounts. Oh, and, er, just got a phonecall from [livejournal.com profile] mingmerciless that he has contracted gastroenteritis. The unanimous vote is the gammon steak he had, since everyone else seems to be fine.

Shepherd's Bush, looked at the cloth requirements for just the *skirt* on the outfit I was intending to make, winced - it's at least 9m - and then after a convo with Liz decided that I have that beaded top. Add jeans or a short skirt and it's Lucky from Bride and Prejudice, though I bought about 5m of chiffon for a simple skirt plus some beady belt stuff for the waistband. *Much* easier. Found some material that's good for the Saffron sash, and we're away!

Am half an hour into the American abomination known as the '99 Dr Who movie. So unbelievably crap!

No judgement yet on mr. McGann.
