Okay, this? this was lovely. Packed cinema for Wardrobe, most of audience above teen level :g:

It's not a masterpiece but it is lovely. You need to go see it. The director and writer have added a whole chunk of extra depth, especially in terms of characters and certain motivations. The fact that they are actually refugees from the Blitz is kept hold of and referred to, unlike in the book, where it's merely incidental. Costumes, makeup and photography fucking gorgeous, but then what do you expect, since it's made by the same guys who did LOTR.

Oh, and James McAvoy as Tumnus is fucking gorgeous. [livejournal.com profile] the_oscar_cat, if you haven't seen this yet, go now and drool. (oh, and the Shakespeare Re-told is out on dvd)

Mind you, my addiction to the fucked up future fic about Narnia and the Pevensies is not helped by this film in the slightest. Though it is the first production/book of Narnia where I haven't automatically thought 'Edmund is gay.' This one may be just bisexual.

I am a tad peeved, to say the least. Not angry, but extremely peeved.

On [livejournal.com profile] goodenough4me, a QAF uk comm. Latest post is a bunch of icons, including one of Aidan Gillen which is intensely pretty. (the first one, bearded) I looked, flicked through the icons, which although are pretty, I didn't feel the need for. The first one, which wasn't in Stuart mode, snagged my attention as it looked familiar and I tried to figure out where I'd seen it before. Then it clicked. The reason I'm peeved? That's *my* photo. The strand of blonde hair you see at chest height is *my* hair. I posted it along with my review of Someone Who'll Watch Over Me on a couple of qaf and Aidan communities.

I scrolled back up, noted she'd posted all the usual stuff about crediting, don't alter, etc, along with a bit about where the caps she'd used were from. But nope, nothing about where the first photo was from. Understandably am a tad peeved, especially since it appears to be popular from the comments.

Am now understanding where people whose fanart gets gacked for icons are coming from.

Most of I've done is commented with evidence and asked for credit. Feel sudden inclination to make my own icon from that picture.

Whilst writing this post, she's since apologised and credited me. But still. :gnashes teeth a bit:

Today went down, parents planning the big christmas do we have for the neighbours every year, sunday before christmas. Its nickname is 'Feeding the Five Thousand' since the amount of food we make for it is *frightening*. Our neighbours are complete gannets. This means everything has to be planned for a good weekend in advance.

Then it was the father-daughter task of getting the tree from Yattendon. A colleague at work had said 'um, doesn't anyone feel a bit guilty chopping these things down just for a few weeks?' I fold my arms and say 'Not me, we get ours from the biggest European plantation for christmas trees. We buy one, another gets planted' Seriously. Yattendon has acres of christmas trees - fields of everything from three inches high to 60 foot fuckers for town squares that you pass along the road to it.

Tree chosen, paid for, lugged home in car, room cleared for gangway space, tree put up at the right angle, then late afternoon spent decorating it while dad puts up all the room decorations.

Now going to watch Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake.
