Dammit. I jsut put the laundry out, thinking the rain had gone, go into town to pick up some mail that didn't have enough postage (and btw, they overcharge when they do it. I use ebay. I know mail prices. This is a 69p postage at most, and it does not justfiy 1.05 charges.) and of course now it is pissing it down and I have another set of laundry due to go out. Including my mattress cover, which needs at least three hours out there.

Evita? OH. MY. SQUEEEEEEEE!

It's really, really brilliant. Phillip Quast is fantastic as Peron, and his calculation politically and fascination with his wife shine through, as does his clear peevedness that the people are calling for his wife rather than him during the Casa Rosada balcony scene. Elena Rogers - tiny, tiny thing, looks even tinier next to Phillip Quast (who I thought was normal height when I saw him in Ultraviolet where he's obviously shorter than Idris Elba and Jack Davenport, who are known to be tall. He's not normal height, he's a head taller than the other male dancers, which means Davenport and Elba must be fucking *huge*), sining voice can't quite manage the higher notes, so she can't belt them, but my god her stage presence. When she's on she shines and you can't take your eyes off her, which is great for the role of Evita. Hard as nails, magnetic, sexual, bubbly, brilliant in all. The guy playing Che 's very much a scruffball as an everyman presence but it wors very well for the narrator role. More resentment all the way through than how Banderas played it, but good. Different take.

Dancing and music - fantastic. According to Lloyd Webber, they've added more latin to the music, and the whole thing's all tango. Which is possibly a compelte bullet-proof kink for yours truly - even Peron's ascendancy through the ranks of power is done as tango, the generals circling and stalking each other, coming together, making it look like they're wrestling, and the flamboyant moves are turned into judo throws and defeats.

I want the cd. Now. Except it's not out til mid-august, according to play.com.

Also? John Major was two rows in front of us, with police protection, and he took off his jacket as we were sitting down for the second act, and our row went 'Descomisados!' (for those who don't get this joke, it was a signature move for Peron, a sign that he was in touch with the workers and common man). The man looks even more like his Spitting Image puppet than ever. Scary.

...Why do I not have Eviat film on dvd? :mutters: except I'm currently trying not to buy anything due to two conventions in august and the deposit, not to mention the rent next month. arrgh.
