burntcopper: (just be a good boy)
here.

Previously you could get one if three doctors agreed your life was in danger.
In the 'features' bit here, they discuss it a bit more in detail.

You're not allowed to have one if you were raped. You're not allowed to have one if the mother's life is in danger, as the features one details about a woman who had one just before the ban came in - her child died in the womb, and subsequent internal bleeding and so on would probably have killed her.

As the article says, the main consequence of this will be a rocketing of deaths in childbirth and during pregnancy. The woman I mentioned, who just had an abortion, has a steaming great point. She has a daughter at home. What would have happened to her daughter if she'd died? Fucking hell. Do these people not remember what the main cause of death in women used to be, and still is in some places? Childbirth. Pregnancies going wrong without intervention. Men would sometimes go through three wives before they were 35.

51,102. Hah!

I shall now do the dance of 'finished nano 11 days early'. it looks a bit like the Dance of Joy, but tends to be involve more wiggling. Well, we are talking about *me* here, my default dance style is Fosse-esque or wiggling. Maybe I should go and sing and dance 'All that Jazz' to the hall mirror again.

However, it's not, er, actually finished yet, though. Only finished the third ball (where Jack has been told by his father to bloody well survey the landscape and make up his mind about who he wants for a wife.). I now need to write... um... one scene with the family, which may or may not include Dandini and Tom, a scene with the king, and the ball. Plus the end scene. All rumours about the last ball including the words 'midnight' 'shoes' or 'Ellie doing a runner' are lies. Lies, I tell you.

Future nanos? You are so being planned out completely meticulously months in advance. It's a bit of a relief when the only thing you're worried about is what new icons you should have.

and now I'm going to find dinner and then watch Torchwood.
