There's something about Jenny

Seriously. if you asked the average fanperson on the street (or lj in this case) about Jenny Sparks, they wouldn't have a clue. Here you have a character created in a not-mainstream comic, killed off a few years later, occasionally seen in flashbacks in the spin-off titles from the original comic, so technically she should have passed into 'fond memory but not much more' years ago. She was killed on the cusp of 2000 due to the central tenet of her character being the Spirit of the Twentieth Century. A lot of us only take her Warren Ellis-written appearances as canon (Stormwatch v.1 and v.2 and Authority v.1 1-12) with occasional allowances made for the Jenny Sparks miniseries.
Spirit of the Twentieth Century, controlled/was electricity, alcoholic, chainsmoker, depressive, pessimist. Didn't have the tits for spandex. Patriotic as all hells. Wanted a better world so very much.
Not all that different from a lot of comics characters.
Yet... mention her even slightly in a fic and you get fangirls going (to quote one piece of feedback I got) 'Jenny! Jenny! JENNY! Hurrah!'. I don't even know if I got a bunch of congratulatory feedback on that fic because the fic was good, or if because my portrayal of Jenny was good, or whether it was just because I had Jenny in it and the mere presence of Jenny makes a fic awesome.
My love for Jenny knows no bounds. Due to being short, blonde, english*, and on snarky default, I get compared to Jenny a lot. I identified with her LIEK WHOA from the very start. Warren wrote her and I fell head over heels from the first page.
*It's a minority thing. We love our British/English characters hard and don't let go. John Constantine, Pete Wisdom, Jenny Sparks, Captain Britain, Meggan (though the last two not so fervently) - Psylocke doesn't get a look in these days due to defecting and being Jim-Lee'd. We have lingering fondness for who she used to be.
