By the sea, by the sea...
Sep. 15th, 2007 06:17 pmIn Falmouth. Gorgeous weather (yes, I spent part of it on the beach, found the water was freezing but kept going - then got back on the beach and found had completely forgotten this concept called 'towel'. Cue me standing around in sun until skin was dry and then changing and heading back.)
Course, one thing I'd forgotten about this place - as soon as the sun goes down enough at a certain point of the year, cue 'cooooolllllld'.
Hasn't changed too much. More shops, more restuarants, slightly neater, but that's about it. Had been afraid it'd been taken over by yachties, but shops are basically the same (though house prices are apparently horrendous).
Gorgeous, laid back... I just wish it wasn't hours from everywhere else and that there was work to be had.
Still never fails to amuse me that aside from a few things like New Look, M&S and so on, most of the clothing shops are surf/skate oriented, and a large proportion of the populace goes around in such gear. Because it's practical for the climate. This or fishing gear. Which makes me ponder what the transition point was - I'm trying to imagine most of the 20th century's fashions here and failing, because they weren't designed with coastal living in mind.
