burntcopper: (bsg boring)
:cringe: Reasons why some singers should never change genres, # 5,6123.

Downloaded a fanmix which was Captain Harkness x2 themed, because at first glance it looked like a fairly decent big band era mix. However, due to the way Windows Media Player sorts things - by name rather'n album - all the tracks have been scattered throughout all my other stuff. And it turns out that the majority of the tracks that the fanmix consists of are really godawful *boring* (or listless, or just weak) examples of the era, because every time I've been hit by a new song and go 'Internet Jesus, that's terrible' it turns out to have been from this fanmix.

Just been through a bunch of Sarah Brightman. Except it's her pop stuff. And, okay, not a massive fan, but respect her vocally - for range and power if nothing else. Only stick her voice on pop songs, especially wispy ones? Eyuuuuurgh. Does *not* fit.

Also sulking a bit, since I've just heard Michael Buble sing for the first time. I've heard plenty about him - new arrangements, popularisation, reinvigoration... and it turns out to be one of those cases of 'everyone name-checks as an influence, but when you listen, it's fecking awful'. Blegh. BLAND. Seriously. It's so bland it's not even wallpaper. It's... oh, I know the perfect comparison. The last season of SG-1, where even the explosions were boring for the most part. His arrangements must've been really innovative, that's all I'm saying.
