:twitch: chocoloate? wheh?
Nov. 10th, 2007 02:29 amSeriously. Today was a bit better - just concentrated on work, ignored either boss except to get clarification on some things and update the other one on where we were in terms of catching up, and no, I have no idea how disruptive I was. If they blame me on David babbling something chronic about Ghost Rider and other crap films (as
psmorrison may recall, Streetfighter still ranks up there as worst film the pubmeet lot have actually *paid* to see), I will smile sweetly and point out that both of us were continually working and most of my end was 'uh-huh' or '...I actually paid to see Super Mario Bros and I still count that as better than Streetfighter.'
Went out for drink, got call from parents that they were going out to the re-jigged Topo Gigio (italian place in town, got taken over by the manager and chef and re-named). Which is kinda funny because it points to a serious trend in the UK as people get more familiar with what other countries' cuisine should taste like. 60s, we just about managed Pizza Express and the cheesier version of Italian places. By the 90s, they were places like Topo Gigio, which were... good food, but probably still a fair bit english. Now, Pizza Express is going far more Italian and doing regional styles, and the new place is seriously, seriously... wow. With being simple and yet we were dribbling over 90% of the items and eventually making our choices on 'er, we simply can't manage something that big' and all of us ended up having a starter and then a small portion of risotto or pasta or the sardines. (this trend also observed by parents of a Spanish place in Falmouth they've been going into on and off for ten years, where it started as generic but nice non-threatening mediterranean. Now most of menu is full-on Spanish.
Gets to coffee. Parents order espresso, I order hot chocolate, thinking that the sugar would be nice but I can't quite take the caffeine buzz of coffee. What I got was... er... you know those tiny, tiny espresso cups of what's almost liquid chocolate you sometimes get served in Italian places, which you always feel would be more suited to being poured over ice cream? I got an ENTIRE TEAPOT's worth. Manager also brought over a glass of milk after smirking a lot and then taking pity on me after seeing me attempt to spoon this stuff up, which I mixed in with about a third of the pot at a time. I spent the next hour unable to stop bouncing, babbling, grinning, humming a song for more than ten seconds, and my pulse was racing. Seriously, could actually feel my heart thrumming.
I am now finally vaguely sleepy. It is nearly 3am. we came out of the restaurant at 10:15.
