Had an interesting line from someone - I stuck up an ad for a beta, got two offers, but one of them said 'I've read your fic and the quality of writing is normally very high so I'm not sure what I can offer'. Which does make clear just how much an editor/beta contributes - as any of the people who've beta'd for me can tell you, my first drafts normally involve pointing and laughing on behalf of the beta.
Oh, and there's nothing like being phoned up by a tickets company to say that your payment hasn't gone through - 2 days before the performance, even though you've got the tickets. (and checking statements, the payment indeed hadn't gone through...) Fortunately sorted, but *gah*.
