nano blather

That's as of last night. 70% on day 16 isn't too bad, right?
Currently on a sort of intermediate scene which looks like it's going to be a lot shorter than I thought it would be. Next up, visit from the Cornish lot which I started because I reckoned I needed more emotional attachment and then realised I didn't have a bit that explained why Dr. Tremayne (Ed's brother, Sam doesn't know this) knew about him and Sam, so that'll be in there... Plus, hey, more Sam freaking out about getting sent to jail for being a bender is good. And for some reason I have a random gratuitous scene of Ed stripping off in front of everyone planned. it's not a bad thing, right? On the other hand, wondering what other off notes I can put in about Ed. So far I've got his extreme mateyness with the Tremaynes (to the extent that the other servants mentioned that Dr. Tremayne has been known to do stuff to Ed just to piss him off and no-one thinks this is odd), the fact that he doesn't have a defined job as a servant (odd-job man/ but mostly works on the family's boats in cornwall, established that he got strong-armed into being the valet for the Home Counties visit), and his laid back-ness.
Rather interested in the way I'm writing this. It's almost all dialogue and scene description, no introspection and rambling or excessive wordiness which is my usual way of coping with nano, and is probably even less than my normal fic. Instead I'm just writing more in the way of dialogue or action every time I start procrastinating (a lot). And because I've no introspection, I've realised that I know very little about my characters (seriously. the only thing I know about Sam, my pov character, at this point is that he's a valet, a bit picky about who he shags, takes pride in his job, has a sister, two cousins died on the way back from the front of flu, and doesn't like reading ghost stories. Most of that came out due to random conversation with other characters. i have no idea about his opinions on anything.). Have bugger all background for them aside from what's on screen. So it's more like watching a tv show unfolding than my usual.
http://www.warrenellis.com/?p=7967 - oh, the must-have-it-ness of this t-shirt (image here). have ordered mine in pale blue. Problem is that it's coming from America (damn cafepress) so I don't get my grubby paws on it for a while. :sulk: (btw, it's only available until midnight sunday GMT)
:sigh: I miss tv. All I've seen recently is Merlin and Dr Who, because I'm the kind of person who has problems writing if the tv is playing on the same screen. (also there's the whole issue of me rewinding every time I think I've missed a line of dialogue)
