(aka still fucking well groggy)

This was the Buffy/Firefly gig by Starfury, May Bank Holiday Weekend in Blackpool, Location : Norbreck Castle. Which has changed hands and had a new paint job since last year. However, certain really stupid rules are in place, being after hours, you must have a key to get a drink from the bar. Considering there is one key (yes, key, not keycard) per room and most of us are in twins or triples, and even then we're doubling up on floors and the like.... Dammit, we're con goers! We need alcohol! Do you know how much money you can make off us in alcohol alone?

Anyway. Did the drive up, wanting to throttle Naresh all the way... (don't ask) And settled in for a weekend of talks, partying, queuing and drinking, as well as my first time stewarding, Helen having cornered me when I was a tad tiddly to sell raffle tickets. Have signed up to sell raffle tickets again, since I like selling raffle tickets. All the perks of stewarding (front row seats and getting into queues you're not the number for) and you can do it on your own time.

Buffy Guests :

Nick Brendon - better than last time, going through rehab, very honest about this, funny but a bit forced. And fully clued in on the whole Spike/Xander thing, constantly makes jokes about it.
Emma Caulfield - inspires the quiet and the respect. Rather sweet and very serious about her craft and the business, as well as one who happily says 'Fuck Fox' and getting many a cheer about it.
Clare Kramer - Absolute trooper, and we love her.
Juliet Landau - didn't get to see much of her talk, but still *such* a sweetie. With amazing legs.
James Leary - A man who has officially become one of the Starfury Nutters. That we will invite back as often as possible because he is funny and smutty and goes off on tangents and willl happily wear Led Zeppelin t-shirts and talk about his obsession with the Darkness, as well as go 'I have an adorable four year old. He needs to eat. Give me work.'
Nickolaus Brown - costumer for Early Buffy and Scrubs. We shall hug him and squeeze him and compare him to Carson off Queer Eye. Especially when in autograph queues tells Sonia that she looks fabulous and says that breathing is overrated when wearing a corset.
Elizabeth Anne Allen - Cute! Poster child for Rats everywhere, especially gender-changing ones, who sniffle and go 'Willow just used Amy as a rebound tool and broke her heart, the callous bitch!' There's a reason she's invited back so regularly... :g:
Sarah Hagan - much like her character. Possibly a bit dim and young, but we forgive her for being sweet.
Tom Lenk - awww. Hug and squeeze and apologise for your non-geekery again, go on. And what's scary? The hair in his Angel ep was *not* a wig.

Firefly guests :

Nathan Fillion - dear god, the man is hysterical. And sexy. The Captain Tightpants nickname came from him. And knows how to work a crowd. Several hundred people who'd never even seen Firefly have been converted just by this man's efforts. He also gives out polaroids from the set of Firefly to people asking questions and I have one of him and Gina Torres! Mwhahahahahahaha! These are gold dust beyond gold dust, being the only Firefly stuff it's possible to get besides the dvds.
Jewel Staite - eeee! So sweet and pretty and funny and self-depreciating!
Summer Glau - Take River. Take away the looniness. and hug.

Last minute Guest :

Robert Patrick - you should be jealous. This is a man who has respect for James Cameron because of what he was able to pull off, utter pro, stayed to do as many autographs as humanly possible since he had to leave Sunday morning, funny, very accessible, and insisted on talking to everyone in the autograph queues. Now I wish I'd got a pic with him.

Parties verdict : Friday night, died in catsuit, changed into a 10-07 (we were doing Dogma/J&SB - Dead Hooker in Ben Affleck's trailer), partied my little socks off.
Saturday - You've never seen so much last minute prep for a costume entry, including lacing up in the corridor with help of my knitting needles, painting on of spider webbing and forgetting half the ruffs.
As usual, best costumes were robbed. Smile Time Angel should've won, with Firefly Shindig in a similar position for group. Instead? Fricking cheerleaders in bought costumes.
Sunday - Togas! Simplicity pattern 9974, eight uses at the last count! Was surprised that there were so few non-toga toga things - almost entirely our lot, with Claire as scantily dressed plaything, Maximus Decimus Sloopius, Third Gladiator Totty on the left, Paris and Helen, and Medusa. Special mention to the girl we thought was wearing a sack but on closer inspection proved to be wearing a very well-done Roman Briton outfit.
