If anyone reads [livejournal.com profile] iolaus_andy's journal, may I defend myself a little. I didn't slap him around the back of the head and then try to walk off. I cuffed him around the back of the head and demanded to know what he'd done to make Liz cry like a geyser. And then stayed through the ranting and tried to calm him down, pointing out that I've listened to both sides of the arguments but am a little bit pissed off that he made someone else cry. Exes' battles should not extend to people around them. That is all.

We have to face facts though, they do, always have and always will except in those relationships where the "let's be friends" thing actually works. And we all know how rare those are.
Breakups are emotional times and they provoke emotional reactions, especially in people who react very strongly. And because of the awkwardness inherent in being friends with two people who suddenly hate each others' guts, sides *are* taken, unpleasant though it is. It depends on who spends most time with which person, which side of the story they know best, and previous feelings towards the individuals involved.
I'm not accusing, defending or trying to "butt in", just pointing out that it's sadly impossible to tell people not to involve others in their breakups because it IS inevitable.
