Note to self : stop watching Japanese horror films. They're bad for your psyche.

Seriously. Normal horror - sure, you jump and possibly scream, but in the end it's just blood and guts. No images of people wasted away or almost completely built on weird noises and creeping horror, and the other thing about Japanese horror? You can't fight back. At all. Ghost-whatever appears, you're dead and that's it. One prefers stuff where you can fight back, and British takes on it for preference. (Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days later, Dog Soldiers)

The Grudge is pretty good. Lots of creeping horror, and more low-key than The Ring, with a sense of inescapability. SMG's good, and there was Ted Raimi! Squee! (Yes, squealing Ted Raimi fangirl - when things like Clear and Present Danger are on tv, I have been known to go 'squee!' when he cameos - considering I have never watched Xena, this is impressive) Also rather good Bill Pullman, and it's large amount of flashbacks make it...geurgh. Stay away from the damn spooky noises, haven't you *watched* horror films before? I like The Ring more, and it's considerably scarier plus a bit more intelligent, but will happily rec The Grudge to anyone who's in the mood for it.

Possibly the only problem with watching SMG in a film with supernatural stuff in it - you keep expecting her to start kicking arse left right and centre. Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] megolas was right. Clea DuVall cannot play straight to save her life unless it's of the crush form, like in The Faculty. Sat there going 'Honey, we know you're uncomfortable and your character hasn't got that much depth. Just keep on saying this to yourself : the sister's cute, the sister's cute, and you can get out of the pink and white any time soon.'

Need to get started on Nano for today.

And also? Even in the Faculty she was still all: "eek, boy." at the end. That kiss when she's all girly and pastel? most unsexy screen kiss, ever. I have to watch But I'm a Cheerleader now for the sexy Clea. mmmrrrow.

Especially the policeman. I mean he goes to this house because he knows it is all cursed and then he goes off investigating a noise. Dumbass.

I know just what you mean.

Ah, The Grudge... Personally I thought it was better than The Ring. The Ring was focused to one thing - the tape - and you had warning. The images etc weren't that freaky, so it didn't bother me much.

The sounds in The Grudge tho... And the fact that ghost woman showed up *everywhere* was a bit different. Yick. :Shudder: Gah.
