I keep reading this term in fic written by americans, and I still can't figure out what it means. What the hell is "Indian-style" referrring to when someone is sitting down?

Is it cross-legged? Sitting on your heels? What? Because, really, if you're sitting on the floor, there's only about four ways to sit. Cross-legged, sitting on your heels, sitting with your legs up in front of you, or sitting so your legs are folded off to one side.

supposedly all the Native Americans sat that way, as opposed to the European emigrants that... sat that way too? I dunno.

it's also considered rather un-PC to call it that anymore, so I'm rather surprised you're seeing it in fanfic. ::shrugs:: *I* wouldn't put it that way.

I see it a *lot* in fanfic. Oddly, most often HP and comics. Which is why I was wondering.

it's crossed legged, but with your back straight also. think of all those cheesey sixties sitcoms where indians would sit round a fire, passing a pipe. it's that kinda deal.
