Arse. New pope.

Ratzinger's got the post.

Nobody expects the German Inquisition. Here's hoping he doesn't stick around long. I was really, really hoping for the blokey from Mexico.

I was really, really hoping for pretty much anyone else!

:sigh: Looks like he's the choice of the old guard in Italy - the ones most out of touch with the world. As the lay get more liberal, the old farts scream and run for the more conservative, hoping for the 'good old days'. Here's hoping he dies fast, considering he should've retired on age grounds at least a year ago.

It's times like this I'm glad I'm atheist (officially Jedi) in a country that's Anglican. Never are you more glad that a monarch wanted to divorce his wife sometimes. I just get worried by the heads of the Anglican church that proclaim they want closer ties with Rome. Oh no we *really* don't.

'Oh look we have another Nazi fuckhead in power!' - made my mum laugh this morning.

Frankly, I would have settled for my brother as pope over this guy.

'Gays are evil' - not just perverted but evil.
'All other religions are wrong' - not just silly or misguided, but wrong.

'It's the Age of Aquarius & we're gonna have one last pope who will divide the catholic nation' - did it hafta be this fuckwit?!?

I was hoping for an African Pope, just to cheese off the Old White Establishment.

At least he's not Italian.

And he's pretty old. Am NOT impressed with his hard-line attitude.

The only problem with the African cardinals? Almost, if not just as, hardline as Ratzinger. The Nigerian one looked *really* bad. Hardline on contraception in a country reeling from AIDs? Way to go, there. The Latin American ones were quite liberal for the most part.

I was surprised they went for Ratzinger - favourites don't usually get it. Thought they'd go for a Latin American, that being their biggest constituency. Maybe next time. I guess it's the old guard circling the wagons. Still, he's 78, how long can he last?

Not exactly the one you wanted leading a Catholic church into a bright new 21st century. With this guy they'll be lucky to crawl out of the 16th.

Perfect for him. After all, he does lead the Inquisition.
