First, [livejournal.com profile] twinkledru invasion of the fair city of London, which was planned with military precision. Meet at 10 am at Kings Cross, tackle and squee. Get turned round twice when finding tube entrance. Hike it for Leicester Square, decide on The Producers as the reaction towards Guys and Dolls was 'You should be so lucky.'

Go National Portrait Gallery for Most Photographed - Queen Vic, Gandhi, Marilyn Monroe, Muhammad Ali, James Dean, Elvis, Adolf Hitler, Greta Garbo. Fucking fascinating pics in there, with v. Interesting blurb on how they controlled their image and just how self-aware they were of what photography did. (well, all except Elvis, who was an exception for having *no* control after the Colonel got his hands on him, and they make the point of his image getting faker and faker as time went on). Scarred for *life* by image of Hitler in lederhosen. Suffice it to say we reached for the bleach. Some really amazing ones of Muhammad Ali training underwater and an overhead shot of the ring when he'd knocked someone out. So worth seeing. Also got sidetracked by the BP Portrait competition, where we picked our faves, posted fro viewers' choice award, then checked who actually won it. To say we were surprised was an understatement. It was technically brilliant, just completely frickin' soulless. The shades of black one which we reckoned would've was third. (technically brilliant, but arresting - you saw people turn the corner and stare for a good few minutes at it, amazed and trying to see more into it.)

Camden. Where we lunched on arepas (one day I will have something else. One day) and thencefore strived not to buy anything due to lack of funds and carrying space.

Had to sprint for Covent Garden once out of the tube, arriving four minutes before curtain up. Turned out we had stall seats in row C, which was fabulous for a start, then bumped ourselves to row B post interval. Possibly the only thing I have to say is that I think I like the Franz I saw last saturday better (he'd swapped with the other bloke). Pizza and frozen yogurt.

Got back, encountered parents (dad will always approve when one brings home a history geek) recorded vids (watching Jules fall about laughing to the UK Gold Sharpe trailers) and stuck on The Broadway cast soundtrack. Cady Hoffman as Ulla has nowhere near as strong a voice as the girl we saw at Drury Lane (who is apparently the stand-in), which means the 'now, Ulla belt' part of 'If you got it, flaunt it' isn't as good. Uma Thurman's doing this role in the film. The woman has no curves! (kind of necessary for Ulla) And does anyone know if she can sing or dance? Spent weekend singing 'Springtime for Hitler' off and on. If one of us wasn't singing it, the other was. Have decided that we need to make a multi-fandom vid to 'If you got it, flaunt it'. There also needs to be Sharpe vids. Many many Sharpe vids.

Sunday, introduced Jules to Black Books. Created new fangirl. Then watched Dodgeball and manfully donated Numbers on the proviso that I would be getting it back.

Watching SG1 and SGA. Non-spoilery observations :

Er, does anyone know if it was implied that Skinner had an extremely large manhood? Because Colonel Caldwell sits with his legs very, very far apart...

Episode 2 : I love my McShep. Also my Carson and my Zelenka when he just bounces.

SG-1 : Nrrrrgh. Vala. And [insert Ben Browder's character]. Yes, we know you're not supposed to be a couple or anything, but will you stop exchanging those *looks*? You know, the 'know exactly what you're thinking' ones, and the 'all together now, he's insane' ones. And the damn body language of knowing exactly where the other one is at all times! Stopppit! Stoppit now, dammit!

I do like Warren Ellis' comment that Farscape takes over SG-1 and laughs evilly. I'm just saying, if Scorpius or D'Argo turn up, I will not be responsible for the maniacal laughter emitting from the Farscape community pointed in the direction of the Sci-fi bosses.

Springtime for Hitler has become my cheering up song at work. Seriously. 5 - 5:30, that sucker is played fricking continuously for the sole purpose of perking me up. And it only helps that I can picture John Barrowman singing it in the film. :maketh the happy noises:

And on walking back to Regent's Park tube tonight, have discovered that the song translates pretty much effortlessly into German. Oh *dear*.

'Kommt auch, Deutsche, geht auch zu deine tanze...'
