It was a grown-up adaptation of Austen's most 'grown-up' book. But I found some of the POV camera angles a bit annoying, and I felt that for all that I love Rupert Penry Jones, Wentworth was underwritten. It also lacked any sense of fun - no one smiled at all, all the way through. And the way the couple were constantly interrupted and delayed during the final 45 mins felt more like Thomas Hardy than Jane Austen! But obviously some of these things are features of the book. It was a good production, but if I had to choose my favourite, it would still be Northanger Abbey which had a playful sense of playfulness and brio, which I enjoyed.
Any Dream Will Do is definitely my guilty pleasure. :-) At the moment my money's on the long-haired Irish boy who lived with his grandparents. With the dark-haired guy from Phantom in second place.
You're right that the other channels have admitted defeat against Doctor Who. It got 8.2m viewers, so they didn't stand a chance!
Good luck in Sherwood. I hope the funeral passes off well and provides closure.
