I'm a member of staff here at Basildon Park. Thank you for your comments; very good of you to write about us!
However, i just thought i would let know that the walled garden doesn't belong to The National Trust; it belongs to one of our neighbours. We would love to have ownership and turn it back into the Walled Garden providing fruit and veg for our tea-room. And as a space for the local community to use. One day it might hopefully come back to the property.
And with the P&P filming, we were closed for 7 weeks not 7 months! The fee we received for filming wasn't actually that much; it was the extra 30,000 + visitors in 2006 that made it worthwhile for us. And indeed people still visit with P&P in their minds.
