Well, today started interestingly. Woke up at 9 to put some laundry in, went back to bed and slept fitfully until 11 (which was a bit later than I meant) had shower, put muffin on to toast, went to hang out laundry, smelt the toast... and spent the next two hours throwing up water.

Lovely. Still can't figure out why.

Once throwing up was finished, delivered a smackdown on the whiners who'd spoiled *themselves* and were whining about having done so on the Robin Hood comm, and went off to the pangbourne fete. (tombolas, tea, band, barbecue, dragon boat racing, etc) Morris dancers had been replaced by viking re-enactors, who I spent a while chatting to. Watched their fighting. Of the opinion that Morris men are scarier, more violent, and aren't sober like the vikings were.

It also appears that the welly-throwing is a test of masculinity. Or at least it became one. A couple of blokes did it for a laugh, and then more and more of them lined up, with resultant cheering and mocking laughter from their girlfriends and mates. The egg-throwing, ont eh other hand, appears to be more luck than skill.

Haul : strawberries, hot dog, large bag of fudge, toffee and nougat, a bracelet, and a dvd - 'The Heart of Me', a Paul Bettany/Helena Bonham Carter/Olivia Williams film I've been curious about since seeing a vid for it ages ago. Apparently the film is very average, but still curious.

Vikings - Sober,,,, in the same sentence? When did that happen? When i did Viking Re-enactment back in the late 80's/early 90's they were all very fond of home brewed beer. So were quite drunk for alot of the shows.

I started doing Viking reenactment in 2001, and the sobriety rule was uncontroversial then, and had been around for some time.

As I understand it, a couple of nasty accidents made it necessary - if you're not sober, you're not going on to the field.

The drinking now starts as soon as it's "wimples off", usually 5pm.

That makes sense. I did see some nasty accidents and have a scar as a result of a sword fight from Vikings.

The 'wimples off' sounds like an excellent idea. Are you part of Regia Anglorium? Thats the one I used to be part of. The 'Crois DeNox' group in the North.

No, I'm with the other lot, in Gesithas, a small group based around Cambridge.

Although I have to admit that the last (counts) six swords I've bought have been for other times/styles than Viking combat. And it's likely the next few ones will be, too.
