Updating sites and so on (still having problems with writing content for IBE and DW, I know what I need to do, it's just being stubborn) and went through a few links to places. Places with their own domains, bought in the great domain rush of a few years ago, when everyone and their aunt had domains. When we used to bitch something awful about the so-called elite, they who ran things like Buffy in Paradise and glad-handed each other with fansigns. (remember those? pictures with cheery messages like 'You Rock my Socks!' :sticks fingers down throat:) I received a couple and they were kinda sweet but they made me uncomfortable. The days before everyone discoverd lj for their diaries. So, collective whore that I am, I checked a few of the 'elite' lot. They who had massive graphics, not much content. And you know what? Not many of them left at all. Lost interest, let the domains lapse, moved on, real life intruded (several were students) ... and why yes, I'm feeling a tad smug. Also looking back at some of the designs and... damn, they're garish and ugly.
