Spent Saturday in Shakespeare's Head at Holborn with con crowd (part tech crew, part regulars, plus one Sean Harry) Con gossip, silly stuff, comic recs, tickling in the pub, (no, I'm not going to say who it involved, but suffice it to say some of us had to bury our heads in an article about Ben Browder in SG1) outrage over SFX's sci-fi ratings, general shuddering over the very concept of Constantine, Hagfish jokes, Malcolm bashing, I *missed* the fricking Paris Hilton story (sorry [livejournal.com profile] mingmerciless, I'd gone to get a drink), various media people being peeved about not being invited to the Serenity screening, crapness of certain media franchise people, Collectormania workings, fan dynamics (certain shows will simply not get big con audiences, no matter how popular in the ratings), and how much actors will charge for con appearances. Alexis Denisof charges more than Dominic Monaghan. Considering Alexis is no longer in a show that's on air, and Dom is not only LOTR-boy (massive hordes who will turn up for tickets/signings just because of that) but is also on one of the top-rated shows in the US at the mo... book Dom. He's also much funnier. (Did you know Lost is classified as being part of the sci-fi genre by the US networks? Neither did I. Weird. Bet Gilligan's Island wasn't.) Convinced Jackie that she needs to watch Firefly and do a Nandie costume from Heart of Gold ep. Also convinced Liz and her that they need to do Six costumes from Battlestar Galactica because they have the correct figures. Me, am seriously pondering Boomer. Hmm.

Me, Liz, and Jo were last people standing at about 9, so we voted to go back to Jo's and educate Liz in the ways of Firefly. Considering she's already been to White Room and Fusion and had no idea who these headliner guests were, we felt knowing by the time Serenity con came round would be a good idea. Spent the rest of the night and all of Sunday watching most of the season. Pointed out that Liz is actually Kaylee. Really. Jo is mostly Inara, and I... I just watched and went 'oh dear god, I'm Wash, aren't I?'. It's always a tad disturbing when your fellow watchers agree wholeheartedly. Cursed that series had not gone on any longer. Liz is now fully-fledged convert.

http://entropic-cascade.popullus.net/index2.htm - some rather nice ones, quite naturalistic. Most of them aren't people in the middle of kissing - there's a lot of 'about to kiss' or similar. She has had pointed out to her that in one of her Due South manips, RayK is too muscular. Which admittedly is a fairly common mistake in manipping. However, in one Sentinel shot, I've just come across something you never expect to see in perfect bodies world of nekkid manips. Jim's body isn't muscled *enough*. Seriously. It's gotta be one of the few fandoms where that happens, since Richard Burgi is a big built bastard who works out a lot.

Gah. data entry...

Well, the results were fine as far as I'm concerned. Can't really begrudge Freeman for his Best Supporting, even though I think it should've gone to Clive Owen. Personally? The whole 'omigod, travesty, Scorcese didn't get the big two' thing? Thppppppbbbbt. I shall go on record here as saying that what I've seen of Scorcese's work, I don't like, and dislike it when people win awards just because they've been ignored in the past, especially when said nomination this time around doesn't compare with their previous work. (which everyone did actually agree about The Aviator)

Possibly my only real peeve is that Morgan Spurlock didn't get Best Documentary for Super Size Me.

Hmm. Anyone got a decent source for seeing the dresses? (yes, I am Best Dressed-Worst Dressed whore) What I've seen of them on http://empireonline.co.uk were rather gorgeous, but sadly lacking in Worst Dressed. Though that might go to Hilary Swank, who veered from the tried and tested formula everyone appeared to be sticking to of bodice with large/mermaid skirt (either sleeveless or strapless) to some godawful tight blue high necked, no back, long sleeve thing which did nothing for her or her rather nice muscles. (Clive Owen's wife's entry was fucking scary, but she wasn't presenting or nominated) Best dressed... at the moment I think they're going to have to give it to Halle Berry, (frankly gorgeous pearl grey one shoulder number of sweeping lines) who gets extra props for turning up at the Razzies the day before and taking the piss out of herself and her agent.
