Well, the results were fine as far as I'm concerned. Can't really begrudge Freeman for his Best Supporting, even though I think it should've gone to Clive Owen. Personally? The whole 'omigod, travesty, Scorcese didn't get the big two' thing? Thppppppbbbbt. I shall go on record here as saying that what I've seen of Scorcese's work, I don't like, and dislike it when people win awards just because they've been ignored in the past, especially when said nomination this time around doesn't compare with their previous work. (which everyone did actually agree about The Aviator)

Possibly my only real peeve is that Morgan Spurlock didn't get Best Documentary for Super Size Me.

Hmm. Anyone got a decent source for seeing the dresses? (yes, I am Best Dressed-Worst Dressed whore) What I've seen of them on http://empireonline.co.uk were rather gorgeous, but sadly lacking in Worst Dressed. Though that might go to Hilary Swank, who veered from the tried and tested formula everyone appeared to be sticking to of bodice with large/mermaid skirt (either sleeveless or strapless) to some godawful tight blue high necked, no back, long sleeve thing which did nothing for her or her rather nice muscles. (Clive Owen's wife's entry was fucking scary, but she wasn't presenting or nominated) Best dressed... at the moment I think they're going to have to give it to Halle Berry, (frankly gorgeous pearl grey one shoulder number of sweeping lines) who gets extra props for turning up at the Razzies the day before and taking the piss out of herself and her agent.

The Fugblob is taking on the Oscars at the moment...

And, yes, the dresses are definitely my favourite part of the Oscars. It's a damn shame Imelda Staunton's was so hideous because that woman is gorgeous.

What she was wearing at the Baftas was rather similar, so I'm guessing it's a fave style of hers and thus there's nothing you can do about it.

I get a bit annoyed about the whole winning for the sake of previous work thing too.

Hilary Swank looked awful, I've no idea who told her that dress was a good idea, but it didn't look right at all. There's a bunch of pictures at IMDb here. I thought Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet and Sophie Okonedo looked great. On the male side, what the hell was up with Johnny Depp and that facial hair? He looked like he'd just completely run out of time when he was getting ready and managed to just partly shave.

Considering how bloody stunning she looked at the Screen Actors Guild awards, she should shoot her stylist.

IMDb should also be shot. Who wants headshots, dammit? We want the dress.

Indeed, but then Mr. Depp has always had a problem with strange facial hair. And he should've been grabbed and shoehorned into a plain tux, because there are few who can pull off a plain tux like him and his bone structure.

That's true, there aren't many who can work a plain tux like Johnny. Jake Gyllenhaal might well be one of the ones who can though.

Am annoyed that I can't find any really 'worst dressed' dresses, or at least no full length pics yet. Other than Hilary Swank, and bad as that was, I can't imagine it was the worst.

in fairness to Johnny (whose taste is often *questionable* at best), he's either in pre-production or early production for the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels, so he's working on that Jack Sparrow facial hair.

Ye Gawds! there are some hideous concoctions there.
That style is just not universally flattering enough for them ALL to be shoehorning themselves into it.

www.oscar.com has some good red carpet shots, including full bodies.

I did find it hard to get excited about the awards this year, although normally I'm an Oscar junkie. This was not helped by Sky stealing away the broadcast rights again. This wouldn't be so bad, but none of the terrestrial channels have bothered to show any kind of highlights show, so grrrrr at them...

Same here. I was annoyed that I wouldn't be able to stay up and watch all of it 'cause I had to go to work at 8am today, but even more annoyed that I couldn't watch *any* of it because Sky had taken the broadcast rights and were putting it out on Sky bloody Movies.
