Back from France
Jul. 9th, 2005 11:15 pmWell, back from sleepy Dordoigne (cave painting and ducks country), catching up on immense amounts of lj stuff, and now figuring out how to get to new job in wake of circle and district being shut down for a verrrry long while.
In light of bombings, we'd spent the previous evening going 'oh christ they're *kidding*' over London winning 2012 - my family would much prefer Paris to have won due to being better at big projects, having more space, and *much* better transport. However, they didn't bring the full force of their PR to bear, and Chirac is alienating people left, right, and centre, so we got it. have decided to be out of London for those three weeks 8 years hence.
On bombings : first, all terrorists are fuckers, as we well know in the UK. Second, sympathies to all those who lost their lives and the injured, plus thank god that the bombs went off where they did. Third, amazing job by the emergency services. Fourth, Am not sure what they hoped to achieve, since we're used to various parts of the Tube being shut down - you could literally hear all Tube users mentally calculating their other options for getting around sans those lines, and they certainly didn't interrupt the G8 summit.
Oh well.
