Two days of birthdays
Aug. 30th, 2005 10:59 pmAka vegging during the day (on Monday in a pub garden) and then going out for a three course meal, with many, many gin and tonics. Where everyone starts going 'ow. may have eaten a bit much.' I, on the other hand, was the only person who went to two in two successive days and fortunately only ended up feeling very full rather than pained. Possibly because on sunday I only had tiny amount of rosti, and monday I was eating mussels. I can eat mussels and chips til the damn cows come home.
Anyway, there was squeeing, amazement that Ally managed to eat a whole fricking sea bass, meringues as unpredictable ballistic weapons when trying to cut them open, and me revealing just how bloody ingrained my parents' manners beaten into me at restaurants are. I ask everyone if they're okay with their food. Individually. Check if everyone's picked and that they're absolutely sure. Point out the vagaries of the restaurant, and apologise profusely to the vegetarian for not remembering that this restaurant only had two veggie dishes aside from the side dishes. Wincing internally when someone eats their bread by spreading the whole chunk with butter rather than tearing off little bites and putting a smidgen of butter on that. Clocking up the side dishes. Going into 'agh, are you sure that'll be enough veg for everyone?' spasms.
Have had a vague SGA/Dr Who crossover bunny in head for a while, primary lynchpin being Captain Jack. Spent this afternoon realising that what with the Daedalus making regular runs with new staff, it would be so very easy to get Captain Jack on there. Though I have no bunny beyond this. Dammit. It is, however, quite clear that Jack gets himself in seamlessly, gets on with everyone, Rodney hates him, and that he's slept with at least half the people in Atlantis and everyone knows it's only a matter of time before he sleeps with the other half.
