Just finished watching this week's Six Feet Under, wherein there was Opera sung at someone's funeral. Nessun Dorma, to be specific. It's a cool song, but it's definitely different to hear it sung fairly softly, as pretty much everyone in the UK is familiar with the Pavarotti version, because of the World Cup and its repetition on everything from ads onwards. Pavarotti's a belter.

This segues into me listening to my Gran's copy of The Very Best of Peggy Lee. Best known for Fever, taking on Disney and winning with her Lady and the Tramp stuff. She's got a version of Big Spender on there, which is closer to the Fosse version than Shirley Bassey's - a little more sleazy and quiet - and then I looked down the track list. She did the Jessica Rabbit Song! (Why Don't You Do Right) Fair bit faster, too, and not as treacly as Fever or the version Amy Irving did for Jessica's performance. I like the Jessica version a lot better. Although, considering how short the performance is in the Ink and Paint Club, I was definitely surprised to find that the full version? Two verses longer, and still only two minutes long.

This musing brought to you by a life-long fascination with Jessica Rabbit.
