list-baiting
Dec. 29th, 2003 01:50 amMe and
mingmerciless have agreed that the Robin of Sherwood list on yahoogroups has possibly the biggest collection of anal fuckwits and nutters on the list who lack senses of humour we've seen. At least other fandoms only really argue about fandom stuff or go on personal attacks. Ros fuckwits manage to go into shitstorms about completely unrelated things.
We (well, mainly me) are baiting the fuckers over historical Saxons vs. Romans (dates and such - one tosser's insisting that since the Romans left in 410, they couldn't possibly be around for the saxons and Arthur couldn't be around in the fifth century - Ming is going 'er, the Brits wrote for help to the emperor in 410 because they were getting attacked by the saxons') and the same bloke's also protesting Merlin being in it. On the basis that he's an addition from another set of legends done later. See me raise eyebrow and go 'well, Guinevere and Lancelot are French additions from even later!'
Oh, christ, one girl's now going 'Queens in battle are just totally unbelievable!' :writes reply: Sweetie, ever heard of Boudicca? Ergh. She just compared Gwen's woad and the leather outfits to Braveheart. I may have to kill her on principle for mentioning that film and its travesties towards the historical fact. I'll leave the Bruce vs. Wallace vs. French Queen vs. allegiances vs. timeline to
dolores, as he can rant on the subject far more eloquently than I can. I just get reduced to screaming 'the name Wallace does not mean I am Scots! All Wallace means is 'not Saxon'!' See the Wallachian mountains in eastern europe, the name Vallace in Italy, Welsh, Wales, Willis... :mutters: besides, our branch of the Wallaces are from further south.
