I am so fucking sick of the tension problems on this machine. A single fucking seam that should've taken two minutes, tops, took over an hour due to unpicking whenever it went wrong, and in the end, it still wasn't done. I'm getting a new one tomorrow. Here's hoping that John Lewis have the Janome ones in (aka the fairly cheap, not over £150-£180 ones) Tors, yours is a Janome, right?

Yep, mine is a Janome RX185. It has embroidery stitching and stretch, and its pretty tough and promises never to go seriously FUBAR providing I never let Kellie near it again.

Embroidery stitching is an added bonus which I've never used yet, but stretch stitch is bloody useful. Especially since there are so many pretty costumes that can be done in lycra or stretch leatherette.

Normally I'm against buying brand names for brand names' sake, but if I were you I'd give serious consideration to a Singer. They're world renowned for a reason. There's a secondhand Singer store in Croydon that has decent quality machines for decent prices. It's where I got mine and I've not had a single problem with it so far, despite my being famous for my inability to get on with sewing machines - and the clincher is that it has automatic tension adjustment!
