Was informed that valentine's day is normally either dead or packed, one of the two, by boss. I just levelled a stare at them and went 'tried working in Thorntons on Valentine's? I won't share with you the joys of hand cramp due to icing, then...'
Had a few customers ask 'so, got any plans for yours, then / cheer up / how many did you get?'
Me : I have in my life had precisely one, a joke one, and I don't believe in it beyond a marketing tool.
Them : Why not?
Me : Do you know the actual story of St. Valentine?
Them : Er... no.
Me : Christian martyr, sent a letter to the jailer's daughter just before he was executed. Isn't that a lovely story to give flowers and chocolates in the name of?
Them : Okay, I see your point.
Me : :smirk:
Have since found out (ain't google great) that Feb 14th was actually a day of Juno's, devoted to marriage, etc, and Valentine's name was whacked on it to give it a semblance of Christian values since that was the day he was executed.
