Robin #130, Catwoman #35, Batgirl #56, Teen Titans #16
Finally getting round to reviewing these.
However, the overriding impression is that Batman is a fuckhead, and the scream of 'Jesus Christ, Women in Refrigerators much?'. Seriously. in these three, we get several pages of Steph being tortured by Black Mask. For no fucking discernible point. It doesn't advance the plot, it doesn't say anything about character, it doesn't do *nothing* except say that Black Mask is a nasty boy who likes torturing people and pain. Oh, and that some fuckwit of a writer has a fetish for hurting people. (Bill Willingham, you were the one plotting this arc....)
Robin - really not liking the art much, as it's too many lines and not enough shading. Also, ugly Tim when in mask. When out of it, quite pretty. Nice line on Jack-hysteria and Tim-reasoning, though the line about 'learning responsibility from you' has to be sarcasm. And since when was Jack in the army? Btw, just so you know, Leslie thinks the Bat-people are insane and a danger to everyone else.
Batgirl : ooooo, *art*. With nice scariness from Cass when picking someone up and threatening a shooter. Lynx, as ever, is a complete amateur twit. ...Trance of the Ghost Dragon? Since when? Lynx likes kicking people's skulls in and guns, and I ain't never seen her use no trance. Still, she's dead now, but at least she was written consistently as selfish as hell with a short-term view to all things throughout all appearances. Shucks. Though fighting in the middle of the clinic... er.... Oh, and this may have been the last straw for Leslie. Leslie no like de bat-folk. Yes, it was very subtle.
Catwoman : I just love it when you have people stepping back to go 'oooo, pretty' with the martial arts. Because dammit, if you're not in any immediate danger, that's so what I'd do. And aw, Babs/Selina banter. But save me from the godawful angles on female bodies, *please*. And at least the previous comics weren't posing Steph like she was some centrefold post-torture.
Oh, Jesus, Bruce, you have no brain. None whatsoever. Cutting across all systems of comms, attempting to give orders to all the cops, blanking Babs... Do you *not* realise what cutting across all comms can do and all the important things you could be cutting off right there?
TT : :snerk: to the moment of x-ray vision. And Bart cooking, and everyone's reaction. And 'Legion Flight Rings'. Bart's been wanting one of those back ever since XS came to visit that one time... 'Wax on, wax off!' :snerk: Though Kon? Put the jeans and t-shirt como back on, please. Also cut your hair. It made you closer to the holy spirit of Michael Rosenbaum. Tim's reappearance, I'm guessing that this is some time after the conclusion of War Games...

Date: 2004-09-24 12:32 pm (UTC)War Games is worrying me. Theres interesting character stuff going on, but it is kind of buried among a lot of things I rather wish they hadnt done, and the dumb art. Plus a bunch of missed opportunities and these issues full of mostly fight scene.
But TT artwork is great, and even if the story seems kind of random there's character stuff there and I pretty much trust it will be interesting.
