:sigh: bored, Second Coming
Mar. 2nd, 2005 04:54 pmLooking at letter header for job app. Trying to summon up energy to write rest of letter. And two others, which are Royal Household jobs. Really.
Uploaded some new icons - a couple of Lost, couple of BSG, another comics, and a potc and a remus/sirius. (blame
copperbadge). Deleted some others. I have too many icons stored on my computer and can't find excuses to put some of the pretties up. Deleted a couple of picture folders.
Need to make the skirt for Saffron, and then see if I have enough material for Amidala. Will probably have to double the material due to white lycra's transparency issues, though I can't figure out what the hell they used for the actual costume. Hmm. On looking, it appears they doubled it for the trousers and the top is single layer. Interesting.
Need to get around to watching the Numbers and SG-1 eps I've dl'd. Numbers to see if I'm interested in the show, SG-1 for catch-ups so I'm relatively primed for when Ben Browder starts in the next season.
Finished watching Second Coming, written by Russell Davies, aka QAF and Dr Who writer. (the Son of God is reborn in Manchester as Christopher Ecclestone) Good show, sets up some nice questions and answers them well, bloody good performances (especially Ecclestone as this unbelievably normal bloke - ex vid-shop worker, got bugger all education, often has problems articulating his thoughts - who gets hit by the revelation that he's the Son of God), and nicely conveys what you'd reckon the real reactions would be to the second coming - the increase in suicides, the rioting, the tv reaction (everything from reporters to Richard and Judy), the sheer adulation/hatred he gets, plus the reactions of his mates. 'It's *Steve* we're talking about here. *Steve*.'
Very good thing on the Messiah as ordinary bloke, and some of the parts in the first half really and truly blow you away. Especially when he makes his first speech to the masses, where Ecclestone shows just how bloody good he really is. The sort of thriller tone and urgency the first part has sort of dribbles away, which I reckon is a mistake. It becomes too ordinary and talky in places. Still good, but lacking in rhythm and not as good compared to the first part. Also concentrates a bit too much on Judith, his best mate cum fancied for bloody ages, long-term non-believer and takes the most convincing. But still, best second coming and most convincing I've seen in a long time. Just reckon they should've kept the tone of the first half.
'Er, what do we call you now, Jesus?'
'Steve'll do.'
:g: Which is one thing people tend to forget - Jesus/Joseph was a really, really common name. It wasn't anything special. It's the equivalent of Steve.
But I recommend watching it at least once. Especially the first half.
