Bonham was looking through a box of things in James' room for a few documents he was told would be in there. Near the bottom, his hand hit a small case, the kind you use for glasses. Like most of James' things, it was fairly old and battered. However, he was pretty sure James wasn't the type to keep glasses for sentimental value, since most old pairs of glasses only had worth to Oxfam. Shaking it, he couldn't hear the rattle of anything, and it didn't have the muffled sound of something well-padded either.
Opening it, he found an old pound note. 1945, stained and creased with use. What it'd be doing in James' possession he had no idea, since he was sure that it was in too bad a condition - and too common - to be considered worth anything to a numismatist.
Frowning, he was on the verge of putting it back when there was a squeal from behind him. "Put that back!" James ran forward, snatching the case and pound note from Bonham's hands, checking over the note for possible damage with the care and attention he normally only gave to really large sums of money.
"F'give my askin', mate, but what's so special about a pound?" Bonham asked. "Not like you haven't got loads of 'em."
James gave the note one last fond stroke before putting it back in the case and hugging it to him. He frowned, then his expression turned to the dreamy look that was normally associated with figures with at least five zeros attached. "It was the very first one I ever had, and I knew from then on I wanted lots more of them. But the first is always special."
Bonham coughed, having spotted the documents he was originally looking for. "Nice to know, I s'pose. Be seeing you later, got to get these to 'is lordship."
"Oh, yes, run along." James said, flipping open the case again and staring at its contents, dreamy look still on his face. Bonham decided leaving him to commune with his love would be the wise decision and exited swiftly.
