Just watched this, thanks to a mate passing me a dvd with it on (not due out here for another month or so).

It's... interesting. Was admittedly flinching at some bits, but it's mostly due to them following Frank Miller's script and images almost exactly. At first, the ultra-stylisation of the script it makes it a bit uncomfortable to follow, but gets easier, although some of the voiceovers stay horribly clunky. They work on the comic page, not so well in film. Photographically, it's fucking gorgeous. My only real problem with the photography was that occasionally, the colour additions so weren't necessary, but worked really well in other bits. There is one thing Frank Miller does fantastically and it's composition. (anyone who's ever read 300 cannot deny this) Great performances from everyone, especially Brittany Murphy, Alexis Bledel and Benicio Del Toro as Shellie, Becky and Jackie Boy. And Clive Owen really shouldn't have bothered trying an American accent - he slips in and out so much it's annoying. It wouldn't have made a difference to Dwight if he was a transplanted Englishman. Elijah was fucking spooky, especially in his silence and martial arts.

One thing? You actually forget how much violence is in the books. I was watching the fight scenes (well, not so much fight as violence) and wincing at how long parts were going on, then realised that I kept recognising exact images - the books , you can flick through and skim over, film you have sit there and watch every move go through. Though one scene in the film that was so much better than in the book for violence (all right, two) Jackie Boy in the car speaking to Dwight. Benicio Del Toro whispering and mad is so fantastic. The other one was bald guy who gets shot through the chest with an arrow but it doesn't do anything. In the book it's kinda 'eh'. In the film it's hysterical. All props to the actor. Also, a lot less shouting than in the book. At least it seemed a lot less forced.

Altogether, good effort. Not sure I actually like it, but it's definitely watchable.

Also? Aero have just released a new flavour. It's in Woolies. Irish Cream. it goes far, far too quickly and is so very smoooooth.

Remember, Dr. Who tomorrow is 6:25 as Eurovision is on. Remember to watch both. I don't get to see Dr Who til Sunday, but Eurovision is mine, mine all mine.
