got to use the 999 button on phone for the first time in about, oooo, ever? That's it banned from use for another five years.
Basically, nearing Mornington Crescent, hear the sound of some sort of impact, turn and see a motorbike on the floor, some bloke next to it, and a few others hurrying towards the scene. Couple of people going for the biker, me and someone else fishing out mobiles, and I just happened to be the one who got it out first. Cue the first aiders, sort of ascertaining what was going on (apparently the biker and the car side swiped each other whilst making the turn for Harrington Square, damage to the car door and the biker's hurt his back a bit, last I heard, but didn't find out until *after* I'd finished the call), telling the emergency services, waiting for the emergency services, making sure the biker was comfy and didn't move, telling people to 'please bugger off, we're waiting for the emergency services, got a first aider right here', stopping the biker removing his helmet, handing out pens and paper for the people to get details. And then being really bemused when the fire dept were the first to turn up. Something about the petrol spilt from the bike, apparently, with a bit of advance medical before the ambulance turned up. Then the police, who were collecting reports and details - the first aider seemed to be the only one who actually saw the whole thing, because the driver of the car certainly didn't see it. My response was 'Er, no, I didn't see a thing, I just phoned 999. Oh, and that's his bag. I'll move my shopping out of your way.' Finally ambulance. Waited for a bit until he'd been packed away, then me and the first aider walked away, feeling very bemused. Calculate it took about half an hour, and didn't even hold up traffic for more than about two minutes.
