Remember a while back I came across a Dr. Biro?

A Dr Daniel Jackson has just entered the fray.

THIS IS NOT FAIR.

Admittedly he's writing about the way mineralisation and patterns of seashells evolves, and he's operating out of the University of Queensland, but still...

Let me imagine that he's got light brown hair, glasses, is impossibly cute and is best mates with an air force officer. Please.

Oh, and something I must ask : why is it all the archaeologists I've actually *met* (used to get them in when I worked at Jessops) are big blokes who're quite well-built? (this also includes my cousin, but that I handwave. relatives don't count.) Is it the working in cold damp conditions?

Archaelogy involves a lot of digging, often in difficult conditions. It's a distinct advantage to be built.

The only archeologist I know is a female geological archeolgist, but when she's on digs she gets *fit*. Normally, she's got average cushioning, by on digs, she gets skinny and lean and not a trace of fat on her. Kind of a survivor build.

Off digs, she grinds rocks into very, very fine powder.

I think it's totally random. Some of the (male) archaeologists I know are muscular and big, but some are scrawny :) Of course, excavating does built up stamina, but does not necessarily make you fit :)

Have you ever seen "Two men in a trench"? BBC2 show, I think it is/was, where two archaeologists go round Britain being enthusiastic about battlefield archaeology. They're qualified archaeologists of about 10yrs-ish, and they have the full complement of assistants to help with actually digging, and yet they look like university dropouts (ie, tall, thin, badly-shaved and with hair that looks like it's about to go off on its own somewhere).
