Back from doc's. (there's nothing quite like being on hold for half an hour at 8:30 in the morning to get an appointment.)

New doc seems okay. Looks like her first thought is asthma, considering she kept mentioning it - that and my lung capacity/lung pressure, which should be 480 but is actually 580. Whatever that means. That and the bit when I started coughing at the end of it and she blinked and went 'is that sneezing?' and blinked a bit when I said that was the normal variation, not the deep barky or the wheeze. Should've told her that the sneeze sounds more like a shotgun's gone off. Have antibiotics for a week to see if that clears it up. Also offered inhaler. Lungs otherwise sound healthy. Options are asthma, chest infection or something like heartburn. (last one pretty much discounted due to the fact that it doesn't get any worse at night). Come back if it hasn't cleared up, after which we may look at chest x-rays.

Raising eyebrow at the asthma thing. I somehow think not.

Why not asthma? Cough-variant asthma was totally my first thought when you posted about your cough last week.

I dunno, I think it's because I never get shortness of breath - the wheezing part of the coughing is a kind of independent entity of what are otherwise healthy and powerful lungs. And it seems nothing like the wheezing I've seen my asthmatic mates do, which was genuine reaching for breath rather than a sort of add-on ending. Gah. I dunno, shall see.

Well, whatever it is, I do hope it gets better soon.

My GP also told me there's a lung doc around here who diagnoses every single patient with asthma (she sends the heavy smokers to her, but warned me against going; maybe it's currently fashionable).

unlikely with the good lung capacity! I struggle to get to 350 :)
However, my asthma is mainly stress related (or food intolerence exaggerated) and i don't wheeze madly like the neighbour. I get a persistent cough which I don't tend to notice I have unless someone points it out.
Boo to antibiotics and inhalers, they may be good at solving certain problems but they shure as hell cause some irritating side effects!
