Because seriously.

First, there was the absolutely reprehensible thing that he did - naming a CIA agent just to get back at her husband who'd pointed out that the Iraq war was a clusterfuck. The fact that his pettiness almost certainly endangered lives, operations, whole slews of stuff... And then he *lied* about doing it. Bush, you know that oft-times perjury is one of the things that is actually come down on harder by judges and juries than almost anything? And that :

Hours before President Bush's announcement, an appeals court had told Libby he could no longer delay going to jail.

The judge ruled that Libby could not remain free on bail while his lawyer appealed against the sentence.

Fines and damage to reputation? NOT THE SAME THING.

He's had people locked up without charge or trial and tortured for the last five years. I think we can take the regard-for-the-legal-system question as having been answered already...

I think the worst thing about this is the utter lack of surprise I feel. The only thing that lowers my blood pressure is the thought that there is some kind of an afterlife, and when Georgie gets there all the signers of the Declaration of Independence will be waiting in line to bitch smack him.

Doesn't help that, you know, that could've been me. There's a reason Dad sits me down and briefs me every time I travel, about how I'm to lie and say he works for an entirely different branch of the government than he does, and just.
