burntcopperHauled all the cloth out of the top of my cupboard, sorted out into 'useful' (ie I can see some conceivable time I will use it) 'scraps' (too small to be used, so bin) and 'potential chaos costuming' (large pieces of cloth that I will never use, or old costumes that are either multi-adaptable or made of big enough pieces of material to be cut down) Shoved everything useful back in and made mental note to catalogue it in a list so I can check exactly what I already have before going to buy new fabric.
Some of it is clearly my over-compensation, always be prepared mentality, because I nearly always buy more than the pattern says I need. In the case of the sundress, seriously glad I got an extra 1/2m because they hid the lining demands in very small print. At the bottom. Some I just... wow. That's the Princess Bride material. at least 2m worth. And the Dazzler material. And then some old costumes made v. early in career that would get re-made from the ground-up if I ever re-did them. Awwww, the Farscape skirt! Eeep, the bloody skirt from Hocus Pocus. Horrific tartan. (still use the top shirt and bodice quite regularly) Quite a bit of fake leather. I learnt. Red and yellow suiting from the cheerleader uniform. Kind of sad about letting it go because it's good stuff, I just can't see a near-future use for it and I have space needs.
Mum made me do the soft toy winnowing. They still had all my old soft toys. Some would go into the loft, because chances of me or mum letting them go was zilch. Others with little sentimental value were going on the oxfam run. One big bags' worth of toys I remembered but had no attachment to. Some had me going 'You know, I'm trying to remember if I ever liked you. And you I really hated and stuck in a cupboard as soon as the giver was safely out of the house.'
Now? Lunch. (yes, it's 4pm) And seeing what leather stuff I need to make for Conina accessories. The pouch has disappeared, so at the very least I need to re-make that.
