Vaguely interested, considering how fast this fandom has grown...

Unfortunately, none of the possibilities fit my way of entering the fandom.

I've been a fan of Tony Head for years and learned that he was doing this show through a fan newsletter and decided to check it out. Then I learned it had Colin Morgan in it who I knew through his "Doctor Who" episode and thought 'mmh, more eye candy' and when I got over the first "shock" how much they had changed comparing to the real legend, I just enjoyed it more with every episode.

I was aware that 'Merlin' was going to turn up (I'd been hearing rumours about its creation and gradual progression down the pipeline for about two years) LONG before it actually began to surface as a concrete show with adverts and confirmed filming dates, and I always knew I'd want to watch it, just because it was so obviously designed to appeal to the Robin Hood and Doctor Who audiences and I'm into both of those shows already. None of the above: recced by friends on Doctorwhoforum. Which kinda fits the flist thing except it happened before the LJ explosion.

I said "Saw trailers on beeb," but it was actually, "Read article in Radio Times." Close enough.

Saw a couple people talking about it on my flist and got curious. I d/l the first four eps to see if I liked it and fell like a very falling thing. And like gnimaerd, knowing it was designed for the Robin Hood/DW audience didn't hurt.

None of the above. I'm a long time fan of Anthony Head and I too heard about it through his official website and newsletter. ASH being in it was a good enough reason for me to watch it. :)

I was reading about about a bunch of new shows coming in 2008, saw Merlin and went oooooh *grabby hands*.

I figured a series that was taking the tea-time spot on the Beeb, and so obviously RH-shaped was worth checking out.

I've actually seen people uploading the episodes in my flist. And my sister told me that 'the dude from Midnight' is playing Merlin. I went, "Hmm, ok." and just figured out that I'll check it out later. Which I did and glad I did!

I read a Movies in Fifteen Minutes-style thing about Merlin on my f-list (this (http://sarahtales.livejournal.com/121436.html#cutid1), actually), and just knew I would like it.

None of the above. Was a fan of Torchwood and when I heard one of its stars (Eve Myles) would be guest-starring in the first ep I duly tuned in :)

Actually, I didn't have a clue it was even on until about 5 minutes before it started when my mum said to me 'That new program Merlin's on now. Are you going to watch it?' And i did, and i liked.

None of the above. I actually saw the NBC ads(for their Spring Lineup) for the show a week before it started airing on BBC. Since I'm a geek of all things sci-fi and fantasy I decided to check it out and fell head over heels.

I wish I'd seen these NBC ads people keep mentioning! You have no idea how excited I was to learn that Merlin was picked up here in the States.

I saw it mentioned in a Television Without Pity forum thread and thought Morgana looked hot, so I tuned in. heh.

Got the news that ASH was going to be playing Uther (either through Buffy or Dr. Who fandom), so I decided to check it out.

I found it due to half of the Stargate Atlantis fandom wigging out about it.

I, uh, ... I read Pru's Three Castles. Because it was Pru. And then flailed everywhere and had to find the first episode.

Man she has awesome faults. :)

I heard two friends squeeing. My attention was grabbed by these factors:

1. ASH as Uther.

2. John Hurt as a dragon.

3. Eve Myles guesting as a villain (she does a nice line in evil - I always look forward to TW episodes where Gwen goes a bit mental).

Discovering Gaius as well when I started watching was the icing on the cake. Also, the Axis of Pretty that is Morgana and Nimueh...

none of those answers apply to me.
I just saw the promo pics, with merlin (huh, he is cute!!), and arthur (wow, that prince is charming!) and went straight to dl the eps after they were aired.

None of the above, a friend from my flist told me about it, it was runing by the second ep and my filst had zero merlin on it by then.

None of the above, was depressed wanted something stupid and frivolous to watch and from what I'd seen on BBC advertising it Merlin fit the bill.

My brother was watching the first episode, i walked in, lol'd at the dialogue then kinda went 'Oh Arthur is kinda fit and Merlin and Arthur are so in love - I'M WATCHING THIS.'

I picked the first but still it doesn't really fit - I'd heard about it, watched the first 5 minutes of this with the sound down as I was at my friend's house and initially I wasn't bothered in paying too much attention. There was drinking to be done.

But my Mum taped it for me as something I'd be interested in, we sat down, watched it, and I was hooked :)

I had a friend who *would not* hush about it. Then, two weeks before the finale, she came to my house, set up iplayer, we ordered pizza, and I thought "fine, I'll watch one". I was up til about three in the morning, finished all 10 then aired eps that day, and was comm hunting about two minutes later. *G*

*slowly raises hand* Does wanting to do a list of obscene things to Arthur (with a jar of blueberry jam and a cyclist), mean I'm in this fandom or just getting the benefits?

I saw my first ad for it at the cinema (which, btw, makes this show look *super* epic) and went 'I must watch that when it comes on'.

My answer isn't in the poll, so here I go:

I was spending the weekend with a friend in London who was following the series, so I watched episode 'Lancelot' with her. When I got home I tried the BBC site for streaming files, but they don't work outside the UK, so I downloaded the first 4 episodes, got hopelessly hooked and then watched the series in real time on the BBC (which thankfully we do get in The Netherlands).

Heard that Eve Myles was guest starring in the first episode, and ended up liking Merlin a bunch.
