Oscars : results all 'well, duh', but so happy that Mickey Rourke didn't win and Sean Penn did. What can I say, I loved that :
a) someone upset the bookies
b) film and performance i'd seen and loved to pieces
c) it wasn't a case of someone playing what was essentially *themselves*. Hello, *acting*...

In regards to it getting Best original screenplay too, along with the Heath Ledger best supporting, I suspect afterelton.com are probably doing the dance of glee.

Mind you, the fact that several of the awards were won by brits means that most of the acceptances were amusing and non-gushy.

Thoughts to spice up oscars and get more viewers :

Make it more like unto the Brit awards. Everyone is pissed, no-one's taking it seriously, and the camera loves getting the 'BITCH!' faces of the losers and the presenters are judged on the Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood scale.

or if you don't want to go quite that far off-scale, make it like the BAFTAS. Relatively short, all the non-major awards and preliminaries are shown on a subsidiary channel, and no-one's taking themselves that seriously. Due to it being held in a theatre that's showing something else all the rest of the days of the week, they have to keep the stage really simple.

Being Human is just.... :wibbles:

Nina and George just get cuter the more screentime they get, and Nina gets more awesome. Why yes, he does have a fabulous arse.
The George and Annie practicing haunting : HEE.
Owen. Scary, scary fucker. And you do get Janey's believing Owen because ghost ex-fiancee is just too mind-fucking. Feet chopped off. HEE. but you do feel so sorry for her when Annie asks if he's ever laid a hand on her and Janey stiffens.
Vampires in a funeral home. yes, cliched. So very. Herrick = scary, scary, gets scarier by the minute.
George and Annie's fight of crapness was awesome, though.
peeved that Lauren's gone - I was rather liking her now, but at least she didn't do the 'sacrificing herself to save the hero to redeem herself' which now causes *major* twitch.
oooo, Annie can do seriously fucking scary. Yay camerawork and lighting. And dammit, what did she say to Owen? was it the whips and sticks thing from the pilot? TELL US, TOBY.
Door! Banging! herrick! Stabby!
Credits rolled. Cue me going 'but - wbut - whaaaaaa?' which er, apparently was audible in the next room....

On a sort of Being Human note : can someone please explain the logic of that 'I'm a werewolf, therefore this screws up my life and I can't hold down a job' which i've seen in some werewolf stuff and JK Rowling clings to? Let me get this straight, not being able to be contacted at *night* three times a month screws up your daytime activities? HOW?

Aaaaaassssskkkk me iiiinnnn!!! *wibble*

Glad they've kept the nasty secret about the afterlife in - I was worried it'd go all shiny and happy after 80s Ghost's departure.

My impression of the problem for Lupin in HP was that werewolves are discriminated against, and that's why it screws up his life whenever people find out. They think he'll eat them.

(I thought this icon appropriate...)

gaaah. (mind you, was a bit odded out on the ask me in, since everything else but staking has been ruled out in the new mythology, and even the staking was all blood - mebbe he was doing it for effect?)

Lupin - if that's the case, you really want to yell 'why didn't you get a muggle job, you idiot?'

Herrick has to be asked in to the hospital too, though. It's been mentioned several times.

Wizards just shun Lupin. Muggles would kill him. Plus it'd probably risk violating the International Statute of Secrecy or something.

In Rowling's case, yeah, it's being shunned; Lupin doesn't want to integrate with Muggle society. George is in deep denial - he ran away from his family and relationship, everyone who knew him thinks he's dead, he's in dread of killing someone he knows or making new werewolves. He could fit in, but he's not capable of it.

Incidentally, in the pilot, there was a fantastic bit where George scared off his ex's abusive boyfriend by grabbing him when he was just out of wolf mode and telling him that he could smell his blood, hear his heartbeat, knew that he was still capable of ripping his throat out, and the worst part was... he really wanted to. Nice balance to the dweebish side of the character; hope they find a way to bring that back in.
