[livejournal.com profile] deliaepigram asked for this word association thingy.

fandom
Fandom is pretty much my life these days. All my mates come from it. My work skills are a result of it. I was raised as a geek, and seeking it out in my teens led me to comic shops and thus [livejournal.com profile] warren_ellis. Internet Jesus > Internet > Fanfic > conventions (aka RL people). Fandom is a pure and beautiful thing which provides some of the biggest set of nutters and the biggest laughs around. As well as some of the best rubbernecking ever. Fandom is people coming together due to shared interests and then being encouraged to squee.

Sneezing
Anyone who's ever spent much time around me knows about the sneezing. Essentially, have very powerful and massive lung capacity (combo of genetics, swimming addiction as a kid and public school). However, due to summat that happened as a baby, I have terribly sensitive lungs which really kicks off in dry environments. Cue sneezes that can be heard across an office and make people jump. mwhahaha.

Dressmaking
I had enforced home ec lessons at school. Didn't think about again until I started getting into costuming due to conventions fancy dress. Where you start to want better and more accurate costumes the more you do it, and after a while there is no recourse but the sewing machine. And after a while, like with all things, it gets to be second nature when it's the easier option. 'argh, no summer clothing in shops that suits me! To the fabric shop!' Oh, and you start examining shop clothing to see how it's made.

Coffee
Once upon a time I didn't like coffee and my only willing association was chocolate covered coffee beans. Those foolish days came to a halt with full-time office work and needing something to wake me up in the mornings. Red Bull was tried. But that was disgusting and expensive. Tentatively tried coffee, which was free. Never looked back, got addicted, had to cut back when I started getting withdrawal symptoms. Add to that my intolerance of idiots (if you've had to be told more than once and still haven't learned, you get no sympathy), and you get my intolerance of the IT dept who can't figure out how to operate the machine. I object to scalding liquid going everywhere.

Unique
...Apparently I get this label applied a lot. Mostly by people who aren't fandom types (but there I'm known for being the blonde who has an allergy to clothing), where being loud, opinionated and geeky is normal. Add in the geek thought processes and you get the '...Yeah, that's Heather.' response. My interests and tendencies intersect in ways that neither group expects, is all.

”Fandom is a pure and beautiful thing”

As someone who, over a period of years, came dangerously close to losing touch with fandom altogether, and has only just started to re-forge my connections to it, I heartily endorse this statement.
