Blind stuff

was listening to In Touch on Radio 4 during dinner (it's the BBC's disabled program) It's the usual mix of politics, discrimination issue of the week and positive piece. Discrimination was about Digital tv + the blind/partially sighted = utterly fucking useless. How the hell are you supposed to use a visual menu if you can't see the thing? BskyB rep said they were working on it, the tech's a slow process.
Positive piece? Frankly amazing. There's a totally blind bloke who's a 5th level Dan in Ninjitsu. Meeep. He said it's mostly a matter of knowing body language and getting your body sense. He teaches sighted people, knows whether they're doing it right by getting them to practice on him. Part of the test for 5th level, (you get your black belt, then move up through the Dans) is body awareness and sixth sense. One of the tests is the bloke behind you raises his sword above his head, then brings it down on yours. You have to move out of the way in time. This guy moved out of the way eight inches above his head, which is pure and utter split second thought, when you think about how fast someone bringing a sword down on your head is.
