:sigh: last couple of weeks, had a bit of knee pain from what I thought was just staying curled up in a weird position on the couch. Then this sunday, 12 or so minutes into jog, side of the knee starts screaming. Immersed leg in river to chill it so I could walk back, jogged very slowly on it the last leg because I was freezing (sunday was not warm, as you know) and it was stiff but not painful. Sunday night, standing up and the pain hit again. occasional pain hits through monday, along with stiffness. Rang GP, went in yesterday afternoon, Dr Keast prods the bit to the side of my knee where I said the pain had been, cue me going 'argh'. Turns out it's a minor torn meniscus joint. (torn the cartilage in my knee but not too seriously) No jogging for 4-6 weeks, take anti-inflammatories, cycling and swimming allowed. Erk. CHOCOLATE WEEK IS COMING UP. (as any good atheist knows, the major celebrations of the year are 'presents and feasting', 'chocolate week', 'pimms and sunshine' and 'arson, explosions and burnt food') And I stil haven't got rid of the excess inches. I'm going to have to somehow get all the rust off my bike to burn calories. I think removing the rust is going to be a job in itself...

Tonight, I go see Animatronic Pig and supporting cast do the musical version of Alan Bennett's A Private Function as Stiles and Drewe's Betty Blue Eyes (rationing era comedy). Sarah Lancashire has the Maggie Smith role. small altars are being taken along.

Er. I really need to write up my reviews of Vernon God Little and Flare Path, don't I? (Vernon God Little: spooky, weird, hysterical, amazing use of stage. Flare Path: stiff upper lip, all the stuff you couldn't say in the war, entire audience audibly blubbing and five minutes later laughing their heads off. All praise Sheridan Smith, and Taz was treated to me incoherently squeeing about meeting James Purefoy post-play. So nice. So lovely. So drop-dead guh. during the Q&A, we found out what the sound of 50 women all swooning at once is.)
burntcopper: (wtf?)
Went jogging, with a side of 'ooo, sunny and warm!'

...and by midway through 3rd field, I got heat rash. So I sat down to cool down a bit at the end destination. got up when i thought I'd cooled down, started jogging back.

Famous last words. had to stop three times in the third field to lie/sit down, third time nearly blacking out. wo0t. Suspect this is what happens when you try to engage in high impact exercise after all the blood has rushed to your extremities. So yay, walking back the last two fields. Stopped again at the lock, then back to civilisation (with added *new* mild heat rash on the last bit up the hill to my road - no, seriously, body, wtf?)

Those of you in the know may be aware that one of MIT's main servers is called Frodo.

Harvard have just one-upped them. They've named one Hedwig.

We're really, really hoping that it's named after a transsexual. Not an owl.

:sigh: would it kill them to name it after something from BSG? Firefly? Farscape?

slightly dreading this evening. have open-air theatre to go to, which means I've brought my jeans to change into - you'll always get chilled if it's evening and you're sitting still for two hours, no matter how warm it is. But that first 45 minutes? I'm going to be dying. AUGH.

also? EVIL : http://community.livejournal.com/ihasafreezeray/1284.html

trying to thrash narnia fic into shape. going through stages : the bloody obvious, the tell-not-show, and now somewhere into something better which has actual story. I hope. Which I have to research post-war details of the army for. (though, er, someone back me up on this - Peter would probably pick army over navy and raf, right? Being that he is a 'preference for getting hands dirty' fighter.)

dammit. I want to write Caspian headfuck fic but I don't think that's going to be anymore than a snippet of them sitting around the fire. And somewhere lurking is one where they stay and rule and Caspian is torn since he has to act as go-between and translator for the Telmarines and them (Pevensies being on the side of the Narnians every time emotionally, not to mention being savage uncivilised bastards, even if Susan and Edmund are being diplomat supremos), and Edmund springing all these new laws on them and Caspian getting migraines due to the lords being resentful of taking commandments from kids (you *know* the left behind ones think Caspian is ...malleable. And then they're suddenly confronted with the Pevensies.), not to mention desperately trying to keep it from the courtiers that the Narnian monarchs think it is completely normal to engage in bestality. (as far as the Telmarines are concerned, fucking the not-human races - dryads, fauns, etc - is bestiality.) And *then* there's the Archenland problem! and the Calormenes! Whose histories of the Narnian monarchs are, er, a bit more truthful and detail a lot of treaties and wars and the time the envo didn't come back but a note did*...

Um. Er. possibly this may be the Nano....

Yesterday, yours truly managed to twist foot and land heavily on it when making the turn on the landing yesterday. So I now have this great big swelling/deep bruise halfway up my foot that is painful and causing me to limp. YAY.

The latest one is the one where you buy and sell your flist as pets. (said flist doesn't actually have to have the application installed, it's more like pokemon)

I currently own my brother, several of my workmates, some con mates, and most of the DJ crew. Except one of Damien's mates keeps buying him off me. And then occasionally buying me. Most of the time another con person buys me back. (he's had about 60% of my ownership) Not quite sure why. Sadly, I can't afford to buy either of them because they're up in the 20k realms due to being longer term players. It's mostly a case of 'hoi! gimme back my pet!' as, like 99% of the urge to buy.

Seeing how long it'll take before I get bored of it, but as I only started it yesterday.... It's more interactive than the aquarium thing, which lasted all of 48 hours.

In other news, it's Torchwood fanvid rec time!

The crackiest crack ever. You've probably seen this one recced all over your flist. Jack. Song is Papa Don't Preach. Yes, now let your mind wander places....

Time after Time, Jack/Ianto - sweet and a bit angsty. Rather well done.

Ianto Ianto Ianto - set to Amy Winehouse's Amy Amy Amy - pure glee.

Chasing Cars - Jack/Ianto/team - set to Snow Patrol. also good.

Out there, there has to be a decent media site for gay and bi women. There are plenty of media sites for gay and bi women. But all the ones I've come across? They read like the bloody gay women's magazines.

To iterate : I long ago gave up reading magazines aimed at gay and bi women, and this is reinforced every time I go back to them. They're bloody boring. Not just boring. 'meh' levels of boring. So boring they're not even Moneybox and Any Answers levels of background boring, actively 'let me shoot myself so I am less BORED'. For a description : Gay Times is going through a very boring, earnest phase, but at least it's vaguely readable and the pictures are pretty. Attitude and Out and their ilk are fun and pretty and bitchy and shallow and a good read. All the gay womens' mags? They're more boring than Gay Times, with added Rhona Cameron. Trying to be perky but it's forced and horribly earnest and immensely irritating. Like being force-fed carob and constantly being preached that 'no really, it's just as tasty as chocolate!'.

Gay and bi mens' media sites? http://out.com and http://afterelton.com may be sometimes completely wrongheaded and shallow, but they're fun to read. http://afterellen.com is like being being made to read Rhona Cameron and Julie Burchill at once. ARGH.

Maybe I should learn. Never go anywhere near women's gay and bi media sites that have that much organisation and sponsorship. Stay with lj. Stay with blogs. Stay with webcomics. They're fun and insightful and pretty, after all. It's just that I'd really like to find a gay and bi womens' media site on the level of afterellen that's on the same level of the mens' ones. I want it. We deserve it. WE DESERVE SANDI TOKSVIG, DAMMIT.

Sandi Toksvig in a waistcoat and smoking jacket and a moustache with a pipe. Dammit.

Torchwood : SQUEE. mr. Chibnall, you take notes of what did and didn't work and apply it! YAY! This ep's best description is 'made in a vat by fangirls'. Everyone was awesome. The jokes were awesome. The action, the references and so on, also awesome. And I actually *liked* James Marsters for the first time in ages. MADE OF WIN. And I've only watched it once so far.....

Have been excessively emo, knackered and weepy over the past few days. Have proved that the majority of it can be cured by getting actual *sleep*. Part of it was admittedly hormonal along the lines of me screaming 'HATE MY WOMB. HATE.' :checks watch for when my baby-clock day kicks in: (seriously. for those who don't know, there's a period of the month - normally one day, occasionally longer - where I go 'I want to be pregnant') That and the cold which has me going 'but *why* can't I have an IV drain on my sinuses? I'm sure there's somewhere inconspicuous I could attach it...'

Due to the cold I've had to face up to something a bit depressing. At some point in the near future I'm going to have to move out of London to the seaside. (and I mean *right* on the seaside). a houseboat might be able to stave it off a bit, though unsure on that front and might not cure the funk I get into of not being anywhere near open country/sea. Experimentation has proved that Regents park doesn't quite work for that factor. I'm going to bloody hate not being in a place that's not got half my mates, isn't central, jobs, west end, etc, but... fuck. In the end, it's just not damp or humid enough for my lungs and the past few weeks have proved that coughing fits and wheezing, no matter how much I'm used to them, are no fun whatsoever. It's that or find a rainforest, and I don't see those being that available.

Couldn't remember whether I had ticket for Peg 3 (next weekend) and couldn't be arsed to check since I wasn't too fussed due to the overall knackeredness. Got ticket in mail on wednesday. Now going 'er..... hmm. who can I crash with?' since the guest list is rather cool.

Barrowman panto review will come sometime soon.
