Ah, the New Years' round up of various WIPs/ideas on the backburner lurking in notebooks. Most of these are one-line ideas and never go anywhere. in many cases I lose interest in the fandom.

Chug your chosen bottle of spirits if I finish any of these anytime this year...

Torchwood/Dark is Rising - Bran is head of Plaid Cymru and his hubbie works at Cardiff Uni. collisions happen occasionally with the least covert agency ever.

Dark is Rising/Merlin - I just wish someone would come up with a decent story idea for this...

X-Men 1930s Berlin AU. Yes, my Isherwood fetish is showing. shut up.

Vince-toff Stuart-valeting for his own good. Sadly have no idea how to keep it in character.

Dean as trickster devotee.

Ianto joining TW3 before Canary Wharf as a known Yvonne plant.

Edmund getting chased by Bacchus

Narnia/Merlin. PC call goes weird, Peter joins knights, etc

Nano research time. Gah. Oh my FSM, this'll be year 10...

Pretty sure I'll be doing the Merlin/Narnia crossover. Partially because fight scenes and I think I can get a plot out of it. Slightly scared of writing the Merlin lot since I never have. My other options are the ex-QAF valet fic, and Ianto joins TW3 pre-Canary Wharf. (Girl!Soldier in Peninsula War I can't summon up any enthusiasm for right now.)

Merlin/Narnia : correlates w/beginning of PC. IE, Susan's horn goes off but they go the wrong way and end up in Camelot, post S2. pre-war on borders sitch. Peter enrolls in the knights, Edmund probs in squire position as I'm not sure he's old enough yet, and I unleash Susan and Lucy on the unsuspecting. Lots of interaction possibilities, monarchy issues, magic stuff, fight scenes. My main problem is a) figuring what bits of medieval history I need to research - my Golden Age Narnia is approx C12-13, which sort of correlates with Merlin's fantasy medieval scattershot. I think I'd need some C6 and then go on from there. Day-to-day and fighting research. Not to mention desperately trying not to have Merlin S3 screw with my head.

Ex-QAF valet fic Taz, stop laughing. I can see you. This started as Stuart + Vince valet fic, where Hazel married rich, Stuart's family lost their money in 1929, Stuart re-appears when he hauls a very drunken Vince home one night. Vince gives him the spare room, Stuart gradually takes over valet duties w/oblivious Vince. I have no idea whether this is romance or not. Not sure how much mileage I'd get out of it, though. It's called the ex-QAF fic because when I started writing coherent snippets, Stuart was very firmly himself, Hazel was Hazel, but Vince was *definitely* not Vince because when you make him upper-class twit he's not Vince. Plus, er, valet fic 2 years running may be taking the piss.

Ianto joins TW3 pre-Canary Wharf Yvonne punts Ianto to Cardiff to keep an eye on TW3. Everyone in Cardiff knows this. Cue seeing how the power shifts would develop, the relationship with Jack, no Lisa, no Gwen or PC Andy, Susie, Ianto's family and being forced back to sodding Cardiff, the Ghost Shift affecting the Rift... This one's actually pretty interesting, but I really fell out of writing Torchwood and would have to get back into mindset.

Opinions?

Convention hotpants diet day 1. Stopped snacking last week, jogging at weekends is up to 3 fields, now trying the special k 2-weeker to get rid of the summer podge. If you hear me constantly moaning about being starving, ignore me.

nano ideas did come up, after the panic, and what research I'd have to do :

1) Alistair/Joe. it's like Notting hill but with spy life in the background.
2) Jafar-Eustace, VotD time, continuation of the 'verse where the Pevensies stayed. er. er. er.
3) Circle village - early 80s mining village cut with the first years of settlement, possibly some Roman. Vague horror-ish? - settlement times for northumberland, when mining started, and some on the 80s strikes
4) pirates?
5) smuggling saga between stairs edwardian? - lifeboats, upstairs-downstairs, that photographer couple on indeedsir
6) cornish exploring officer psycho girl? - 18th/19th c, exploring officers, girls employed by the army. places of training.
7) girl in Wellington's army - see above, but with added girls who disguised themselves as blokes.

1) Alistair is a werewolf in MI7, the Weird Happenings branch. Joe is a rather famous american movie star. They hit it off and have a habit of shagging when Joe is in the country. Less angst than Notting Hill, with added spy life in the background.
2) Jafar is the scholar son the Tisroc married off to Edmund, thinking that an alliance with the legendary nutjobs who rule narnia again is good, and an alliance with the favoured of a god (Bacchus) even more so. (no concerns about issue since the general opinion is that succession will pass down through Peter and Susan/Caspian) Add Eustace. mostly a 'gaaaah, they're fucking nuts!'
3) Circle village verse, intercut between a mining town in Northumberland during the 80s' strikes and the settlement of the village, so you get the reactions of present day of the coppers and Union versus scenes of 'oh fucking hell we have *elves*?' (Blame Billy Elliot)
4) Pirates. Um, no, there is no plot for this one...
5) upstairs downstairs romance between the second son of a rich cornish family and the valet of relatives who come to visit them on occasion. Add in that the cornish lot have the rep for being dodgy due to being smugglers (well, *duh*) and the son's on lifeboats for bits of drama.
6) One of the daughters of a naval family turns out to be a psycho. They do a deal with Wellington to channel her tendencies into being an assassin exploring officer. Add the regiment of soldiers that often gets stuck with her.
7) Girl disguises herself to go off and be a soldier. Ends up in the Rifles. And of course she sodding well seduces her cute Irish captain, what do you take me for?

Opinions? Ideas? which one sounds most viable for a novel or interesting?

...dammit. The narnia pevensie parents appears to be going absolutely nowhere. Every time I open it, I just stare at it and close it again. Trying to think of other stuff I can do, since am in complete creative drought re: clothing, writing, everything else. i want to do some stuff, can't think of owt to do.

Thinking through snippets I have hanging around the notebooks. What's available :

Ianto and Jack relationship as something different to what we see on screen.
-Looks interesting, but can't think how the hell I would do this now, since S2 pretty much gave me everything I wanted for that kind of thing.

Jack Harkness, head of Torchwood 1
- oooo. Hmm. Probably done from Ianto POV. This might have possibilities. Kind of requires a plot, though, and seeing if anyone else has done something similar so I don't cross the streams - or at least check through it to see what I do/don't want to do/ what doesn't work.

Jack and Ianto Beauty and the Beast
- yes, the cliché lover in me is alive and well. Absolutely no idea how I'd do it to make it interesting rather'n a complete re-tread of the Disney version. (anyone who cites the original fairy tale as an alternative, I start going LALALALALA. *Much* prefer the Disney. for a start, Belle has a brain and initiative and a sense of humour. And there is also Gaston.)

Jack Harkness investigating the Circle towns
- this one... I was considering doing it for nano, since it's a universe I've been working on for ages off and on (regular visitors, it's the 'towns that have to live with being guardians for the entrances to the Summer Country') but as I've never really been able to get a stable plot out of it, but considerably less than 50k might work better, and I can keep it more outsider POV. Circle towns, off the scale in magic/weird readings/ley lines. Death rate and parish records of the WTF. Yet it's never been investigated/checked on. So you get Torchwood going 'hellllloooooo NURSE' and sending Jack to investigate. I was thinking maybe 1920s? And would I send mr. expendable on his own or with another Torchwood person (who of course regards Harkness as a loose cannon, etc, etc)

apparently I'm getting a new computer today. fingers crossed.
