...but the sign says

Seriously. Apparently shoe repair places do not do stitching. heel, buckles, no problem. Stitching = no.

Sandal strap broke due to the stitching going kablooey. (soles also coming apart) Went down Grays Inn road and tried 3 shoe places. All of which said no. At least the last place told me re : the soles that I might as well do it myself with rubber glue.

Eventually found a bag shop that'd do it for a tenner. but I won't get them back til Friday.

I'm bloody sure the place in oxford circus tube did when they repaired the strap on my wedges.

I'd have expected a good shoe repair place to be able to do stitching, and to be able to bang in a few nails for that matter!

Glad you found somewhere to repair them, but I suppose that meant you had to buy new shoes to wear while your sandals are being repaired? Or did you come into London with other shoes on ...

For future reference, there is a shoe repair shop near the Bloomsbury end of Drury Lane called S Krantz who will do most things or did last time I went there.

Try Michael's on Proctor Street - they've repaired stitching on bags for me (and glued down a sole for free once!) and put an ankle strap into a pair of shoes, which I am pretty certain are stitched in.

I'd be tempted to try the repair myself, for that price. Thin leather thonging or really strong thread and a hefty needle. What my late mother called a 'frog-stabber'.
