jogging - 31 mins 40 secs, plus 6 mins up New Hill and after. :wheeze:

[livejournal.com profile] twinkledru is fucking evil. Her posting about Sharpe being a male lesbian, so of course he needs to be paired with Riley Finn, the other male lesbian of fandom got the bunnies savaging my leg. The Initiative, an american military unit fighting on the side of the English in Spain, terribly by the book. Enter Wellington telling Sharpe that he and the Chosen Men have to pair up with them on a mission. And of course, the personalities of the Chosen Men and the Initiative and way of doing things is going to clash head on. With lots of tension (sexual between Riley and Sharpe, natch, what do you think we are?) and bringing the Initiative up to speed on the real world of dirty fighting. There will almost definitely be scenes a la Buffy where they point out how young Perkins looks, and then they realise he's got more experience and can shoot better than them. Not to mention, of course, Forrest's jealousy over Riley and anyone who gets Riley's attention over the Initiative. So he'll be going after Sharpe, which means that Harper's going to be after Forrest's throat for daring to touch Sharpe or look at him wrong. :whimper: help, I'm going down for the thrid time. You can damn well see the plot bits unfolding, at least character-wise... I even went a-googling to find out what the American regiments of the 1812 era were called. (the only era of American warfare Dad knows nothing about) For those interested, it's normally something in the low numbers + _insert type_ Regiment. 6th Rifles Regiment, that kind of thing. And for some reason I have images of Cooper and Harris getting along well with Graham. Going down for the third time over here.

Also, must post packages and pply for jobs and wash sheets.

Don't mind me, just drooling over last night's Sharpe's Company.

Theresa getting better, and I'm so in love with all the officers. Especailly the one who's permanently pissed, as well as the idiot commanders. Though of course I wanted to shoot the brattish spoilt Viscount William Matthews. It's a knee-jerk reaction to anyone like that in period drama. Kill. Killkillkill. (See also Lizzie Hexam's brattish snobby brother in Our Mutual Friend) Though the scene did have added gratuitous ogling of Sean Bean's back with flogging scars. Am reminded of that bit in Eagle where Hogan tells him to stop showing off and put his shirt back on.

Awww, Harper got flogged. Ah, the usual Wellington just made his first appearance... trying to decide which one I like better. The other one was more of a hard bastard schemer, this one's funnier and more posh. Hmm. Added moments - the wives are damn cool, and the so completely cute moment of Perkins leaving his worldly goods to Hagman, and Dan just grinning and going 'likewise'. Awww. Though dammit, Dan, grow your hair some more! It's not quite got out of the bobbed look of the first appearance yet. Nor does it have the streaks of grey yet. Put *down* the Grecian 2000. Then we had Cooper doing his will, which was bloody funny "including stoppages?". Though, um, Sharpe, didn't you notice your girlfriend started getting fatter? I'm sure you saw her more than once in the nine months after you first slept with her. And the fact that the stomach suddenly went away. Plus, Theresa, it took you eight months after that to tell him that you'd had his kid? Christ almighty. Other bits - what the hell happened to Tongue, bible-spouting Chosen Man of the bandana? Not a single bloody mention of him. At least they could've mentioned that he was killed or summat, not to mention Perkins got a bloody good send-off when he died.

:cough: Now comes the Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill appreciation section. All shall worship at Pete Postlethwaite's altar, oh yes they shall, mother. So. Fucking. Fantastic. Psychotic drill sergeants-r-us, with sideburns and shaved heads. Oh yes. First sequence when Sharpe first sees him and orders him into a wall, then shouts in his face. Mmm. So damn good.

:finishes watching Sharpe's Enemy: :sniffle: Hakeswill dead. No fair. We liked our Obadiah. As is Theresa, who was rather cool in this, as was Elizabeth Hurley and performances all round. Hats off to the 60th Rifles and their Captain, who was damn cool. Theresa dead now. Bugger. (and yes, [livejournal.com profile] twinkledru, I'm seeing the femslash betwixt Isabella and her friend) Ramona! Eeee! Ramona makes her debut! (Ramona is a very cool spanish woman who hooks up with Harper and takes pride in bossing Sharpe around like he was a naughty little boy)

Feel the Harris love. "I'll swop you one volume of Voltaire and one really filthy Marquis de Sade book for that one on officers." You just knew Harris had dirty books tucked away in his backpack as well as the ever-present literature. Though from the quotes I've heard from this episode, methinks I should lay my hands on a copy of Voltaire.

Hmm. Sharpe went to see his daughter Antonia at the end of it, and from what I can see, he took the nurse and her with the Rifles (along with Ramona and a couple of others) Anyone confirm this?

Gah.

This bloody Sharpe/Riley bunny is eating my brain. I've just checked, and Iowa didn't enter the union until 1846. It was acquired from France. I'm reading up on the history, and though it appears there were English-descent people in Iowa before then, it was mostly French, Spanish, and the Ioway Indians before then. Anyone reckon Riley originating from Iowa could still work or will I have to have him coming from another state?

This is taking over my brain. Lar and Twink, this is all your fecking fault. :deep breath: Anyway, after some research (blessings be upon a father who has military books on damn near every subject known to man), I have discovered t' following facts :

Best regiment for the Initiative to be part of would be the 60th Royal Americans, who were the first equipped with Baker Rifles (and were thus a Rifle brigade, like the 95th were) and were around from 1800 onwards. Attached to General Viscount 'Daddy' Hill's 2nd division.
